I've never seen a pianist use a handkerchief for protection while playing glissandos but I've also not seen a piece with so many glisses as this contemporary work. Anyone know of any other YT performances using handkerchiefs?

GLOVESANDOS anyone??

Victor Borge once used a handkerchief as a tape measure, to find a note on his piano that his duo partner played.

There are many uses for handkerchiefs. wink

Wow! -- if I'd known this was OK, or even just had the idea, which I didn't, I might not have been chronically avoiding any piece with one, which I have.
Because they hurt. grin

Even just one.

I can guarantee that I will never sound that good on glissandos whether or not I am holding foreign objects in my hands.

What an incredible pianist. Did you guys hear those repeated notes? Not a single one was like its neighbors. Such detailed, lovely, thoughtful and sparkling playing. I found a bio

And these extremely expressive takes on the Rautavaara etudes, which is probably very hard to do!

I have heard of using a handkerchief like this, but I have not seen it.

Here is another work with even more glissandos:

Wow! Virgil, I never knew thee!

This one requires fingerless gloves to avoid injury while playing cluster glissandi:

(Who in the world would volunteer to be page-turner for this?)
