There are now a lot of videos on YouTube about Yamaha's new MODX synthesizer range. There's also an 88 key version with GHS.

On Yamaha's website:

E.g. Kraft Music, Andertons, Bonners and muzykujkropkacom have more in depth videos.

Apparently it's basically a replacement for the mid-range MOXF series and combines AWM2 (i.e. "rompler") and FM-X (i.e. FM synthesis) much like the flagship Montage series.

And includes a CFX.

Do you know the price target of this synth?
Currently, I own YAMAHA MOX8 and now it's time to say goodbye to my old MOX8.

I would have liked to see a 73/76 weighted keyboard. Still, I like the MOXF, so I'm guessing I'll like this one as well.

I thought the Montage8's keybed & sound quality were significantly better than those of the MOXF or MOTIF. The Montage is inspiring piece of kit. That was tough to tease out in videos or spec sheets but was obvious after about 5 seconds of noodling with the synths.

That said, the Montage is incredibly expensive and the MODX shares a lot of the features; I hope it bridges the gap for regular people.

It appears the MODX gets the excellent Montage touchscreen and menu system. The Montage sound processing is different. The MODX has a different keybed without aftertouch (the MODX 88 keybed is GHS whilst the smaller boards have different keyboards). Maybe you can trigger MODX aftertouch with a footpedal.

I look forward to trying out the MODX if only for the improved interface and potential improvement in sound quality.

I quite liked the CFX on the Montage. I think the samples are the same on the MODX but the on-board processing might be different.

Montage CFX sounds/plays different from the popular VIs I know.

I didn't know that these latest workstation pianos have like 10 velocity layers. My old Yamaha S90 ES only has 4 layers, I believe. Time hasn't stood still (at least in the piano department).
