Korg LP-380 vs. Yamaha YDP-52S - 01/09/16 08:30 PM

Hello,

I would like to buy digital piano for my daughter for music scool. Also for my pleasure...I have doubt between Korg LP-380 and Yamaha YDP-52S. I would like to have a better piano sound and keys like on original acoustic piano.
I would like to read your opinions.

Why did you choose those two particular digital pianos?

Of the two, I'd prefer the Yamaha YDP-S52. The "GH" action is pretty good, IMHO. [I once tried the LP-380, and wasn't happy with it -- but I've forgotten why.]

IMHO, both key action and piano tone are better on YDP-S52.

Charles, can you propose better chois in this price range?
A few sellers propose a Korg as much better?! choise: piano sound and better RH3 keys. I am realy confused.

Petar, may I ask where you are based?

Have you considered the Roland F-140 or Kawai CL36?

Are you specifically looking for this kind of 'compact' digital piano?

Kind regards,
James

There is a review by Tim Praskins of the Korg LP-380:

http://azpianonews.blogspot.ca/2013/04/korg-sp280-lp380-review-digital-piano-2013.html

Based on that, I would _guess_ that the LP-380 "RH3" action is comparable to the Yamaha "GH" action in the YDP-S52.

Mr. Praskins doesn't like the sound of the LP-380 -- there's not enough variation in tone from "pp" to "ff". That would be a real problem.

He has a review of the YDP-S51 (which is the model before the S52) here:

http://azpianonews.blogspot.ca/2013/02/review-yamaha-ydp142-ydp162-ydps51.html

There is no problem with its sound. The S52 should be even better.

I agree with a previous post -- in that price range, you should look at the Roland F140R also. And possibly the Casio PX-850 or PX-860.

I don't see anything _bad_ about the YDP-S52. It would be OK for what you want to do.

Thank you Charles.
Reviews are definitely on Yamaha S52 side. It seems that the only some sellers are on Korg LP-380 side.

Roland have more sounds then Yamaha and display. I don't need too many sounds. Even if I want I can got it connecting S52 on PC via "USB to host" connection.

Casio PX-860 is better choise because the MIDI and audio recorder, recording on usb stick. Also have a 256 polyphony (Yamaha=192).

Forum members, thank you for suggestions. For now overbalance is on Yamaha because the long time experience in Clavinova digital pianos. Also, first of all, because your praise in key action, better feeling, durable, quality.

I have bought Yamaha s-52 7-8 days ago and I am impressed. Today I playing on Korg lp-380 and I am disappointed with key action and piano sound. Yamaha is more then better choise (my opinion).

Dear forum members, thank you for advice.
