We've had this problem occur twice. The effect is the same as holding the Sustain pedal down continuously. The only thing we've found to fix the problem is to recycle power (actuating the pedal several times or even sending a MIDI Ctr 64 = 0 have no effect).

I'm wondering if any other FP-7F owners have experienced the same problem?

Our Labor warranty has run out (Parts warranty still in force), so I'm not planning on getting it fixed unless the problem worsens considerably.

Thanks,

It has never happened to me on the FP-7F, but I have had weird pedal issues on other DPs where the sustain pedal got reversed at mid play or, as you say, stuck forever. For me it has been faulty pedals which, at some point stop sending signals.

Have you tried with a different damper? By the way, which model are you using?

Hope you get the issue solved soon,
Rafa.

One thing you might try, if you're using the RPU-3, is to plug one of the other (soft or sostenuto) pedals into the damper socket and see what occurs.

I use two Roland DP-10 pedals with my FP-7F, and have not experienced any issues at all.

If the problem has only started happening recently, I would contact the dealer to ask their assistance.

Kind regards,
James

I haven't tried a different pedal, since it has only happened twice. I use the RPU3 pedals. If it happens again, I will definitely try a different pedal.

Thanks

voxpops,

I may try that if/when it happens again. The RPU3 Sustain pedal is continuous. I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem.

Thanks.

KJ,

Since the machine is out of (Labor) warranty and the problem is apparently very intermittent, I suspect asking the dealer for help would be problematic. But thanks anyway.

Well, it might be worth giving them a try anyway.

If you don't ask, you'll never know.

Cheers,
James

All pedals in the RPU3 unit are continuous and 'interchangeable' for you to test (of course, the sustain pedal will now be one other than the one on the right smile ).

The one that came with your FP-7F (the DP-10) is as well, and they are all specifically designed for units such as the FP-7F, so you certainly do not have a compatibility problem.

There could be an issue with the RPU3 unit, and the test of swapping the pedals is actually a good test. Other than that, try to find out when it happens, be able to replicate it (perhaps changing patches while playing, not sure when it happened) so the problem could be pinpointed.

Good luck,
Rafa.

I'm going to agree with the others that I think the problem suggests is pointing more to a faulty pedal. When wires or solder connections are first going bad, you can get this kind of hard-to-predict failure.

The dealer may not be able to help unless the problem worsens or becomes predictable, but you may get some insight from a Roland service center if you describe the incident in detail.

Thanks to all for the helpful suggestions. If/when the problem recurs, I will have some things to try. I'm also happy to have an indication that the problem I experienced is not a common problem for the FP-7F.
