Welcome to another year of MOYD!! MOYD, "Master of Your Own Destiny", is a personal challenge where you commit to playing the piano for some amount of time every single day. It might be a few hours, it might be a few minutes - it doesn't matter - as long as you sit down and touch those keys!!!

It doesn't matter if it is a grand, an upright, or a digital. Nor does it matter if it is your piano or any other. If you are traveling and you come across an available piano and play for five minutes, it counts! Any piano, anywhere, for any amount of time will do the job.

If you miss a day you must come here and say so. Please report AFTER the fact. We only need to know when you DID miss playing - not that you "might not be able to play".

2020 will be the 16th year of MOYD on ABF.

MOYD RULES

1. Participating in MOYD requires you to sit on the piano bench and play something at least once daily. That's it. There is no minimum amount of time required. Five minutes counts... but more is better. Simply get to the piano everyday, let it become a habit, and see what good things happen to your piano skills.

2. If you are away from home (for business, or for personal reasons) , you don't have to practice/play that day. You go to the 'Excused list".

3. If you are sick, you don't have to practice/play. You go to the 'Excused list".

4. If you are at home, and you are not sick and you miss a day, you have to come here and tell us the sad story of what kept you from playing. Then you go to the "Back on the Wagon" list.

5. You may start late - however no new participants are accepted after September 30th. This is a hard deadline in fairness to everyone who has participated all year.

6. Everyone who has reported being away, being sick, falling off and getting back on the wagon, or who signs up late has the right to put the MOYD 2019 badge in their signatures on 31 December 2020.

HOW TO JOIN

Simply reply to this thread declaring your enthusiastic willingness to join in and be committed to the plan! I will check in regularly and update this first page with the information you provide.

Signature pictures will be offered to those who are 2020 MOYD winners. Below you will find the 2019 Siggies, for those who participated in 2019.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ADDING IMAGES TO YOUR SIGNATURE:
1. Place your cursor on the desired icon,
2. right click,
3. go to properties,
4. copy the Url, or copy image address
5. go to your profile page signature box,
6. place cursor,
7. click on "enter an image" paste. ( add after. The badge address should read [ img]http://forum.pianoworld.com//gallery/42/medium/10981.png[/img], without the space after the first bracket).
8. save changes

Sad wasn't play by the time last year's rolled out, but enthusiastically signing up for this year's edition! smile

Been playing for just over 6 months now, so still very very green! laugh Have exams coming up soon so won't have as much time to play as I'd like, but definitely still plan on having my daily fix smile

Already have an ongoing daily diary, but can never have enough motivation!

Here's to a great year for everyone joining in smile

Thank you, SwissMs, for all the work you've done on MOYD and for taking the time to respond to posters who have had to miss practice with comments and encouragement!

Yet to practice every day for a full year, lets see if 2020 can be the first of many.
I'm in again for 2020. Thanks!

For some obscure reason that even I don’t understand, I haven’t been able to commit to checking in to this thread for the past few years. It’s strange, though, because I don’t think I missed more than 3 days per year in the last 2 years aside from being away. No commitment, no badge. frown. Oh well, I’m self accountable.

Keep it up, folks, it makes a huge difference. My oddities aside I think it’s great!

But the odd thing is you could sign up and just excuse yourself for the 3 days and other days you are away. So it's more like a commitment with reasonable caveats.
OK, I was successful in 2019 and this thread definitely made me practice a few times that I wouldn't have. In fact, one time, I was already in bed, it occurred to me I hadn't practiced and that if I stayed in bed, I should post to the thread to excuse myself. Faced with that, I ended up hopping out of bed, sitting down at the piano, and the initial 5 mins I was going to play turned into 60 of piano (and 60 less sleep 😂).

Since MOYD has really worked for me this last year, how can I not sign up? So sign me up for 2020! grin

laugh I can see myself doing that, except that the piano is in the bedroom and Mr. Stubbie would not appreciate my compulsion dedication.

Yes, MOYD can be a very helpful tool for those so inclined.
I've hit my goal of playing every day for 10 years - and I think MOYD helped with that.
My new goal is for a total of 15 years, so .... sign me up!

SwissMs- thanks very much for running this thread - that's an extra commitment to the MOYD concept, and your time and encouragement is appreciated!

Wooo! Great to have you along Tyrone smile Haha that definitely hasn't happened. "Okay I guess I can squeeze in 5 minutes even though I won't really get anything done..." turns into a half hour because you're making some progress, into an hour because you want to get it done, into 2 because it's too soon yet! Hope everything is going great smile

I’ll give it a go, ill health prevents regular scheduled practices, but hopefully this will encouragement to sit at my piano every day even if it’s for a couple of mins or so
Proud to start my 4th year in the MOYD thread, please count me in, SwissMS. I am sorry I will have to start with a blank day as I'm away on holiday, but tomorrow I will be back home and looking forward to restart as usual again. Thank you.

I'm in!

I've taken a sabbatical from the piano over the past couple/few years. I've had a lot going on with my life and just didn't make the time for my musical passions. I've almost finished setting up a music room in the house (good enough to get going). So I'm back at for 2020 on the piano, bass guitar and weight loss. laugh

I have some personal goals for the music I wish to work on, so I'm pretty stoked.

Me too Ojustaboo, I'm hoping this will bring some 'accountability' and encouragement to hang in there with just a little bit of playing in the off periods, instead of just getting discouraged and quit again.

I'd like to participate again as I enjoy being a part of this wonderful club and the idea behind it. I didn't travel much at all last year due to an ill parent and the daily playing was an escape from reality. Out of town a couple of times via car but I brought the good ol' P115 with me or made arrangements to use a piano.

Brand new MP11SE delivered today so motivation to play every day should not be a problem in 2020.

The quote below is awesome!

I have my settings so I don't see signatures so this is new to me. I have no idea what my signature even looks like. Maybe I ought to go check that out.

In any case, you can go ahead and sign me up for this year.

Right now, you have no signature.

To see signatures, click the tiny triangle to the right of your forum handle, DutchTea, in the upper right of the webpage and you will get a drop down menu. Select from that menu, "Preferences". In the "Display Preferences" section, the 10th setting down is the radio button for "Show Avatars", and the 11th is the drop down for "Show Signatures." Set these as you like and then go to the button at the end under the "Email and Private Message Preferences" section titled "Save Changes" and click on that.

To set your signature to something, click the tiny triangle to the right of your forum handle, DutchTea, in the upper right of the webpage and you will get a drop down menu. Select from that menu, "Edit Profile". The last field under the "Forum Profile" section is "Signature. Up to 600 characters. You may use UBBCode in your signature." In that field, enter something that is your signature. Then go to the button at the end under the "Contact Info" section titled "Save Changes" and click on that.

Excused absences are generally due to business trips, vacations, or illness. Prolonged excused absences would be rare. I lived in a hotel for two months while our house was getting ready and had no access to a piano. That also qualifies as an excused absence. Back on the wagon would be when you could play, but do not. Those should be rare. One should not be going back on the wagon repeatedly just because they did not feel like playing that day. The spirit of the group is to play piano everyday that you can. If you are home, and have a piano - play!

Please add me to the list. I need to add my icon for the year. Like many others, the daily habit is encouraged by this fun sign up commitment. Now, morning practice is like drinking coffee...a necessity.

Updating my banner is not working for me. When I get to my signature I don't find anywhere to click on "enter an image". Seems I had this trouble last year but I don't remember how I solved it.
Posted By: akc42 Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 01/10/20 07:14 AM
I am puzzled about the use of the icons. Do you only add the icon when you get to the end of the year? Is that why there is no 2020 icon yet?
Sign me up for 2020!

Very first post.
New member, long time lurker.

I just cannot say how appreciated this site, and all the wonderful advices I got from it.

Since I'm just a new piano player, I do not feel my (non existent) experience could be of any help to anybody.
But I'm sure that with time, determination, patience, and many many hours of practice I'll give back to the community what I've received.
Posted By: SwissMS Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 01/10/20 09:04 AM
Hi WiseBuff - To add the icon, go to "edit profile". The final box is signature. I don't see an image inserter on this box anymore. So, you need to right click the appropriate icon, copy image address, and paste into the signature. Then add after. That should do the trick!

akc42- You add the siggie at the end of the year to show that you actually completed the year of playing.

This has been awesome for me already.

Due to numerous health issues, last year I rarely played two days in a row.

Since signing up, I haven’t missed a day ( ok it’s only been about a week), no matter how bad I feel, I’m getting on the piano every day, thinking “ if I play for two mins, it’s better than nothing”, in reality the shortest time I’ve played is 10 mins, I think come the end of the year my piano playing would have increased ten fold.
I'm in again for 2020. After a year & a half without a teacher, I'm back to regular lessons & regular practicing.

I missed a day frown Friday. Wasn’t well most the day, had planned on getting in 5 mins before bed, was so tired, completely forgot, woke up Saturday and first thing I thought was “nooo, I didn’t play yesterday”, and went straight on the piano for a much longer than usual practice to make myself feel better.
Posted By: Josh1770 Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 01/25/20 08:48 PM
Twenty-five days in plus the last eleven days of 2019. One of my longest streaks of daily practice. I am the MO my own D.

But....I feel like I am in a MOYD slump. I've been getting in a few 11:45pm days lately just to keep the streak going. Or just played one song. But not going to succeed by having too many five minute days.

Help!
Posted By: SwissMS Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 01/26/20 08:47 AM
Ojustaboo - These days happen to all of us. I will put you back on the wagon Jan 19.

Josh1770 - Slumps do happen, when motivation seems low. What I do when that occurs is one of two things. I either start a new piece that I am excited about, or I just make a dedicated time of day to sit down and just play pieces I know and love. That usually gets me out of my slump and gets me excited about piano again. Then I am ready to to go back to the hard work. Best of luck!

Please excuse moi for January 24-th and 25-th. I had a flu shot, and my arm was really sore so I couldn't play for two days.
Posted By: Mullolley Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 01/28/20 08:40 PM
I just got a free used piano on January 12th, and I've been practicing every day since I picked up the Alfred All-In-One book the following day. Usually about an hour to an hour and a half.

I'm 36 years old, and I've done a lot of singing, but never really touched the piano except plunking a few notes out here and there. I'm really enjoying the steady progress I've experienced so far, and I'm planning to make this a lifetime journey.

This will be my third consecutive year engaging in this practice, I think I signed up two years back but fell off monitoring these forums. Finding myself at a bit of plateau and need to 'get back on the wagon' with some loftier goals. Count me in. smile

You are correct. You can't claim 2020 until the year is finished so no icon until then.

Over a month into this. Haven't missed a day yet! I'm thinking about joining the 40 piece/year club too.

I will be missing at least a couple of days either this month or next month, as I will go to meet my preemie niece.
Posted By: SwissMS Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 02/03/20 08:58 AM
Finfan- OK, you made me google "round tuits". to decide whether it was an excused absence or a back on the wagon. Since it means "getting around to it" back on the wagon you go!

Brian H - Welcome to MOYD! I will put you on our late starter's list.
Please put me in the excused list me for Feb 11-12. I had pain in my right hand, I don't if piano related or not. Treated with ice, rest and anti-inflammatory gel, it's almost fine now.
Posted By: Snejana Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 02/14/20 09:44 PM
So, I am not sure how much of the excuse this is, but I missed playing piano on February 7.

I had an exam in grad school which totally knocked me off my feet, and I was collecting pieces of myself for the rest of the day.

Actually, I am still collecting myself till this day, but at least I am managing to play the piano as well.
Posted By: SwissMS Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 02/15/20 08:51 AM
torquenale - I hope your hand is better! I will add Feb 11-12 to your excused list.

Snejana - It is not in the rules as an excused absence, but I know what the aftermath of an bad exam can be! We will call it post exam distress illness, and I will add Feb 13 to your excused list.
Posted By: Josh1770 Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 02/15/20 01:18 PM
SwissMS, good work here. Because of this I have an almost two month streak going. But I need a ruling on yesterday.

It was a particularly long day on Friday, so I didn't hit piano until sometime after midnight. Got in about twenty minutes of Gershwin and other things. What I am asking, is first playing after midnight considered missing the previous day? Is the day 12:00am to 11:59:59pm? Or is a day whatever you get done from when you wake up until when you turn in?

(For the record, I had a similar day on Thursday but I got myself started at 11:45. So fingers did touch keys after midnight and during the calendar day of Friday. But I was curious about the above question for future reference.)
I almost never miss a day, only when I travel and since I do not like long trips - I miss home, I miss my piano - that could make 5 to 10 days a year.
And that would take me to the excused list.

Having said that, I am worried because after three years playing non-stop I am afraid of changing the fate by using a public commitment. Bizarre as it may sound this is similar to joining a piano course that you don't follow after a few weeks, when you previously thought it would be the final and ultimate course.

Anyway, I'm in for 2020, add me to the late starter list, and this is my second commitment for the year - being the first and foremost the 40 pieces a year challenge with no pieces added to the list yet. frown

Hello MissMS, greetings to you all MOYD's,
What a great inintiative! On the 26th of feb my new (and first) piano will be delivered and I will start to live my piano dream. Although I am highly motivated every help to keep me going the comming years is warm welcomed. So I would love to join you starting the 26th of february. I am studying some piano beginners books (Alfred's) and an online beginners course already. Looking for a piano teacher too. Grtz from the Netherlands.

Josh1770 - As far as I am concerned, a day does not end until you go to bed. So practice after midnight is still on your active day. So, you're good. Your string of daily practice is unbroken.

The world has gone crazy and in the midst of that I missed practicing yesterday. There was also a day in February that I forgot to report. I've been struggling a bit with my progress of late and practice hasn't been enjoyable lately. However I will persevere!

bSharp(C)yclist - I will add Feb 24-27 to your excused list.

Jytte - I hope you are feeling better! I will add Feb 23-26 to your list.

Finfan- I feel your pain! I have managed to get to the piano everyday, but I would not call it practice. The world has indeed gone crazy. I just cannot focus. I am in Spain under lockdown, you would think I would be practicing nonstop!
I will put you back on the wagon as of March 17.

Hi SwissMS,
After three months I missed a day on March 28. Just too damn sick that day. After that, I hit the Tylenol and tried to find at least a five minute window each day when it took effect.

Thank you,

-Josh
I missed a day on April 14, and I have no excuse. Back on the wagon the following day.

It's a tough period and I find it difficult to focus on my practice; anyway MOYD is helping me a lot to stay on track.

Tonya Mac - Welcome to PianoWorld and MOYD! I will add you to our late starter's list.

Josh1770 - I hope you are feeling better! I will add March 28 to your excused list.

torquenale - I will put you back on the wagon as April 15. I know what you mean about difficulty to focus right now!
Please excuse me for Friday 24th. After almost 7 months of uninterrupted daily practice, I was so tired at night that I didn't have any strength to play.

I guess I'm moving to the excused list. Had to take a week break during April due to aggravating a sprained wrist. That aside, going well so far this year smile
Please add April 30th and May 1st to my excused list. Thank you

I need to be excused for May 11. The middle finger on my right hand swelled up and my whole hand was painful and useless. My best guess is that I got stung or bit and had an extreme reaction to it. At any rate, it's better now and I'm back at the piano.

Hi,

Sorry for being so absent from the forum. I feel off the wagon majorly. I didn't practice from Jan. 5th- May 22nd. I did really fall of majorly. But I am happy to report that I am now 2 days in to being back on the wagon as of May 23rd and back to really using MOYD.
Posted By: SwissMS Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 05/25/20 05:43 AM
Gary001 - Darn those Hobbits! I will put you back on the wagon as of May 22.

Pianist@Heart - Welcome back! I will put you back on the wagon May 24.
I developed a severe case of allergic contact dermatitis on 14 May, went to Urgent Care and got put on 3 steroids including oral prednisone. In the worse of the itching and inflamation, I still practiced every day until 24 May when I had a major reaction to the high dosage of prednisone, and that knocked me out 24-25 May from practicing at all. My first down time since I started the 2020 MOYD on 1 January. cry Hopefully I'll be better tomorrow and be able to practice again.

I off the bandwagon until further notice.
When it rains, it pours. Do to a continued bad drug reaction, I was again too sick to play piano yesterday evening, 27 May, but feel better today and am back on the bandwagon.

Triryche - I hope everything is OK. I will remove you from our list. I will add you back as a late starter is you come back.

Tyrone Slothrop - It sounds like you are having a rough time of it> I will add May 27 to your excused list.
Haven't posted since January, but wanted to say that so far in 2020, I've played or practiced on all but 3 days; from March 5, I've had a perfect record.

I started with a new teacher in October, after 2 years without one, & it's working out really well. In-person lessons have been cancelled since the beginning of the virus "distancing," but my teacher set up lessons on Zoom. I had my doubts, but decided I should at least try it & it's working out really well. It's not perfect - there've been a couple of technical glitches, & some things just aren't possible in a "virtual" lesson - but overall, I am SO GLAD she decided to try it.
I wasn't able to practice yesterday, May 31st, due to a continued bad reaction to the course of prednisone that I've been on, which is my 4th non-practicing day this year, all of these in this two week period when I've been sick. I'm back on the wagon today and am excited to have a piano lesson this morning, which I haven't had since I first got sick back on May 14th. Hopefully these trials are coming to an end as today is my last day of my course of prednisone.
Posted By: SwissMS Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 06/01/20 02:56 PM
Tyrone Slothrop - You have really had a tough time of it! I will add May 31 to your list.

My wife had an issue with the prednisone years ago. She lit up like a light bulb and felt her heart out of her chest. Bad times.

I hope you get better soon.
I give up for 2020.
It's a bad time for me, and I can't afford an additional stress.
So far MOYD has been a useful stimulus for my playing, but not now.

Keep playing for me too!

Yes! I've never had an in-person piano lesson in my life! Ironically, I was all set up for life in COVID times before COVID appeared.

Prednisone is powerful stuff. About a week ago, I asked my doctor if I could stop taking it early and he said 'no', but my dosages reduced continually until yesterday's last dose. All the steroids can be strong. One of the other two I had to take, which is also now done with, could cause gangrene! I'm hoping all of the bad reaction thing is now a thing of the past.

I don't seem to be able to get past this allergic contact dermatitis thing, which took me down for so long. I had drug reactions before, but now that my course of prednisone had ended a few days ago, the worst has happened - the allergic contact dermatitis which was in abeyance during my 2 weeks of prednisone has now returned with a vengeance! cry So yes, I'm saying this here because I again was down and didn't play yesterday June 4th, which is not good since I have a piano lesson in 5 hours. I will be back on the wagon today. So it's been 5 days I've been not pianoing in 2020.

Tyrone Slothrop - I will add June 4 to your list. Do you know what is causing the contact dermatitis? It sounds like you are still exposed to something you are sensitive to. I hope things settle down for you!

No, I don't. I hope the allergens test on Saturday morning will give some indication what this could be. It seems something I am eating or in my immediate environment is doing this, but it occurred suddenly 3 weeks ago. I've never had this happen before so I have no idea what it could be. I am wondering if it is nut-related although I've never had a nut allergy before, but I've also stopped all nuts and seeds. This is a rather itchy conundrum. frown

Please excuse me for yesterday, June 5th. My husband was out of commission with a headache & nausea, so I had to take care of his share of the chores on top of my own.

Please excuse me for June 12-22. We were vacationing in a cabin on the very edge of Rocky Mountain National Park and hiked every day. What gorgeous scenery! Getting our lungs acclimated to the elevation took a day or two. Fortunately, we'd been doing long walks and hikes beforehand, so we were in decent shape.

Had company in from out of town. Missed the 19th - 22nd

Hi Swiss Miss!
I have some back reporting to submit. April 17 through May 1ST Too much practise resulted in a mild case of musicians focal dystopia. It's a real thing.... I blame it on Ravel, haha.
Fortunately, it did get much better only I still have to cut back on practise time.
And a trip recently June 20th to 23rd, first time out since New Year, up to Lake Louise for our 47th anniversary. Got piano withdrawal symptoms but there's an easy cure for that now I'm back home😁
Posted By: SwissMS Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 07/24/20 02:55 PM
Lucubrate - I will add July 19-22 to your excused list.

Palmpirate - I will add April 17-May 1, and June 20-23 to your excused list. Is focal dystopia the same as Focal Distonia? That is scary. Congratulations on 47 years of marriage!
SwissMS-- yes - I must have been suffering from post-apocalyptic shock! Sometimes I feel the keys are purposely making me suffer..... There's a lot of writing about 'musicians dystonia' caused by unnatural use of the fingers with highly repetitive actions that alter the map in the brain cells associated with that motor functioning If realized, little cure, just stop and hope there is enough plasticity in the relevant cells to adjust appropriately. It is not necessary painful and very specific to the action done.So it can be reversible and may be there are treatments that can help that happen. It has affected many famous pianists. I read about it first when listening to an interview with Leon Fleisher and he's playing again since it happened to him.
Please excuse me for July 28, 29 and 30. We were away to celebrate my birthday ! smile

casinitaly - Belated Happy Birthday!! I will add July 28-30 to your list.

Please excuse me for July 27-August 11.

I was traveling due to a family emergency. Horrible time to travel, bad situation.
Even if there was a piano, I would not have had the mental energy to play it.

Thankfully, we’re all home, safe and healthy.

MH1963 - I am glad to hear you are home safe! I will add July 27-Aug 11 to your excused list.

I'm here to report a missed day on 8 Aug - I was getting ready to go away and just never made it to the piano. But I didn't leave home until the evening so it's not an excused day!
Then 9-14 Aug I was away with no piano access, so please mark me as excused for those days.

The worst thing is not the missed day, it's that I also didn't manage to make my submission for the quarterly recital! I had recorded it the day before but didn't manage to upload it.
Posted By: SwissMS Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 08/18/20 10:22 AM
Lucubrate - I will add Aug 14-15 to your excused list.

barbaram - I will put you back on the wagon for Aug 8. Getting ready for travel is always a challenge. I will add Aug 9-4 to your excused list. It is too bad you missed the recital. On the bright side- you are ready for the next one!

Please delete me from this list. I have not played every day (or even close to it) for a few months now. Hope to change that over the next few months though.
Posted By: Ojustaboo Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 08/23/20 11:23 AM
Monday I was saying to my wife how pleased I am that I haven't missed a single day since the one day in January.

Friday (21st Aug) I was very ill, stayed in bed most of the day, got up late afternoon, felt awful, went to bed early. I had meant to try to force myself just to do a couple of scales but was too ill.

Still not totally better now but managed to play both Saturday and today.

DutchTea - I am sorry to see you go. I hope things get better for you.

Ojustaboo - I hope you are feeling better soon. I will add Aug. 21 to your excused list.

So far MOYD has been a useful stimulus for my playing, but not now.

Keep playing for me too!

Update: I didn't touch the keyboard for a couple of months, until a couple of days ago. Still adjusting my life.

It doesn't make sense for me to stay in the list this year, so please remove me.
Had a big push with work and slept 2 hours over 3 days (but since caught up... more or less). So I didn't play at all on 19, 25, and 26 August. I'm back on the wagon now with a bit of sleep in me.

I missed my piano session due to an overly enthusiastic Zoom session. When I thought about reporting it to MOYD, it occurred to me that I've had a couple of absences that I didn't report. Naughty me! So, my absences are:

14-15 July, 2020
13-14 August, 2020
31 August, 2020.

Thanks - and I promise to do better...

I just joined here recently and came across the ABF. I'm very excited to be here. The MOYD is such an awesome idea! I'm brand new to playing the piano. I was actually just gifted a piano and I really want to learn how to play. I've purchased a beginners book and have been having a ton of fun with that.

I know I'm rather late to the game, but SwissMS, if you'll have me I'd love to participate in this years MOYD. The only thing is I already have something keeping me from playing from Saturday the 26th of September until Oct 3rd. I'm getting married and then will be immediately going on our honeymoon smile So unless I find a piano in the Berkshires to play, I'll have to be excused so soon lol.

Hope everyone is doing well,
- Eric

torquenale - I am glad you are able to get a little piano time in. I hope things get better for you. I will remove you from our list.

Tyrone Slothrop - It sounds like you are having a tough time of it. I will add Aug 19, 25-26 to your excused list.

PatrickBl - I will add 14-15 July, 13-14 August, and August 31 to your excused list.

EBerlioz - Welcome to MOYD! I will add you to our list, and congratulations on your wedding!
I literally just found this thread. This is a really neat idea. I'd like to join. At this point the only days I missed were back in February, but that was because my wife and I went to NYC to see Billy Joel in concert (it was my birthday present).

Thanks for the warm welcome Sol Finker and SwissMS!

Random question. If I brought a melodica to practice on at the hotel, does that count? That probably wouldn't count, huh? I had to ask laugh

Please excuse me for 9/18 and 9/19 due to travel. Thank you.

Everything you consider practice counts IMO .

Mwieczorek223 - Welcome to MOYD! I will add you to our late starter's list.

MH1963 i I will add Sept 18-19 to your excused list.

EBerlioz - If you are practicing, it counts! Even on a melodica.

Here to belatedly confess a missed day on 16 Sep. I was out for the evening and didn't plan accordingly earlier in the day!

I discovered Piano World this week and this thread literally a few minutes ago. I can’t say that I have practised for the whole year so far but it was certainly the year I’ve practised the most. Willing to try and practise all days from now on. This year I also bought a melodica which I took to our holidays so I’m guessing I’ll have to make sure that little one comes with me on weekends out!

If I meet the rules, I’d love to join!

Hello,

I'd like to report another absence: 8 October, 2020 (as a result of taking an exotic trip to a hotel - 10 kilometres from home. Funny what people will do with their unused travel budget isn't it?).

Thank you.

Patrick
Time for catch up. Please excuse me for
Sept 23/24/25/26 when I was unwell, and
Oct 2nd through til Oct 10th when we took a break and ventured out of our Covid bubble and enjoyed a vacation over on Victoria Island - away from the crowds!
Posted By: SwissMS Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 10/15/20 08:01 AM
barbaram - I will put you back on the wagon Sept 26.

alaxid - Welcome to MOYD! You are just under the cut off for this year. I will add you to our list.

PatrickBl - I hope it was a relaxing getaway, even if not too far!! I will add Oct 8 to your list

Palmpirate - I love Victoria Island! I have not been there in nearly 40 years, but it was a favorite getaway when I lived in Seattle. I will add Sept 23-26 and Oct 2-10 to your list.

Argh missed yesterday (Wednesday), very busy day, just realised I didn’t practice:(
This morning we will get the keys to our new place and begin moving. Pianos were picked up yesterday, so we'll be pianoless from 10/21 through 10/26. The new piano is scheduled to arrive at the new place on 10/27.

Hi everybody. I've just found this thread and now understand what the stickers on peoples signatures finally mean!
Way too late for this year, but I'm going to make a personal commitment to play everyday and use these last two months of the year as a warmup for 2021 (which can't arrive soon enough)
Posted By: SwissMS Re: MOYD (Master of Your Own Destiny) 2020 - 11/15/20 09:40 AM
Ojustaboo - Busy-ness happens~ I will put you back on the wagon Oct. 22.

bSharp(C)yclist - Congratulations on your new home! I will add Oct Oct 21-27 to your excused list.

Nickram - I look forward to welcoming you to the new year in 2021!

Please excuse me for November 27. We went to the Merced National Wildlife Refuge to do some serious birding (stayed in the car on the auto route). Soaring birds instead of soaring music from my piano, haha.

Hi there,

Normal I play every day. Please excuse me for some days in the week of 16-22 november. I had a major surgery for prostatecancer. After a period of investigation and uncertainty I got the bad diagnosis. In those days I tried to relax at the piano. In a while we will know if the operation was enough successful. Maybe radiotherapy or chemotherapy will follow....cross my fingers.

Kind regards,
Johan B

MeganR - Sounds like an interesting trip@MeganR! I will add Nov 27 to your excused list.

Johan B - Best wishes for a speedy recovery. It is good to see you back at PW! I will add Nove 16-22 to your excused list.

Please excuse me for 12/24.

Insanity reigned supreme on that day, but I’m back at it now.

Thank you.
Hi I know I am very late posting this, but I didn’t really practice from May 24-Dec 30. I sort of practiced for one day then fell right back off the wagon between this time period. I am back on the wagon now. I don’t really have a reason why I didn’t practice.
