Now that the Lola thread has been beaten to death, I figured I'd open up a new one on the movie. It was pretty well panned by the critics, yet word of mouth liked it. So, what better to do on discount Tuesday than check it out?

I actually liked it quite a lot. I was young when Queen was in their prime, and the movie gave me a new appreciation for their music and the band. They seemed like pretty solid guys (the other three), and Freddie Mercury was certainly a star. They recreated the Live Aid performance at the end. I thought it was a lot better than a lot of other rock musician bios that I've seen.

If you're a rock fan, check it out.

Overall very enjoyable movie. There was some fiction added to smooth out the story, but I don't mind to be honest. What bugged me was shortcuts of some songs. There were some bars cut out - usually instrumental fragments, which were seemingly unnecessary, but in fact were there originally to build suspension for the more known parts of the songs. Felt like they were betraying the idea of not making compromises for title song going into the single (which was great scene btw :D).
Also what kind of struck me was the performance of the lead actor. It was polished to the extreme when it comes to moves, dances and oerall choreography, but kind of lacked when showing piano playing - this felt very artificial. Maybe I'm biased as my friends I watched it with didn't notice any flaws in piano technique smile
Also going strong with my November moustache a la Freddie smile

I'm playing this in my theatre this week. It's getting a good turnout and everyone says how wonderful the movie is on their way out after the show; I haven't heard a bad word about it yet.

The whole audience seems be between 40 and 65 years old, which I guess is the Queen generation. I see that I haven't sold a single 12-and-under ticket for the entire week which is really unusual; people bring their kids to the most inappropriate movies sometimes but not a single kid has been brought in for this show yet.

Interesting, Frank - do you own a movie theater? Pretty cool. My kids, 15 and 17, would have no interest; I didn't even ask. BTW I used to have a Celviano AP-650...great underrated digital!

We hope to see this in the cinema soon.

I do. Melville Theatre smile

I don't really have anything to compare it with, but I quite like my AP-650. My wife asked me a couple of years ago how long I figure it will be before I want to get another new piano and I told her I figure I should get at least 20 years out of it unless it breaks or something. It works well and it sounds good so what more would I need?

Haven’t seen it yet but this seems like a good thread to brag a little about my daughter. Last year the film makers were looking for people to submit a recording of themselves singing Bohemian Rhapsody to be used in the film. My daughter submitted a recording and lo and behold she gets an email about a month ago saying they used her recording in the movie. It wasn’t a solo or anything, it’s mixed with many other people’s recordings which is used in the scene when the crowd at the concert sings along to the song. Anyway she was ecstatic that her recording was selected and it’s a fun story to tell our friends and family. We’re looking forward to seeing the movie, love their music.

That’s cool. I think I saw this in another thread once before. I would also like to see the Harry Potter movie, but your theater is a little far for me smile.

I thought it was great, and my 23 year old son loved it.

The story made some of the lyrics seem prescient. (Goodbye, everybody, life has just begun, didn’t mean to make you cry, I sometimes wish I’d never been born at all, carry on, carry on...)

I watched it last week.
Well made, especially the concert segments. You almost believe it's Queen playing.

And of course, recognizing Queen's music is a bonus. Only very few songs did I not recognize.
