Replayed my ABF recital piece on a grand - Piano World Piano & Digital Piano Forums

I had lessons as a child over 10 years ago but quit and I've re-started playing about a year ago. Found a teacher recently too. I had some nice comments on my ABF recital recording (mp3)

This was on my digital piano with Ivory American Concert D, so the recording quality is "perfect".

It's way more difficult to play as well on a real piano (especially a mediocre one). But here's something I just recorded on my new grand piano. (cross-posting from the piano forum)

Yet another amazing zohar arrangement. From the 1998 PS1 game Xenogears soundtrack, composed by Yasunori Mitsuda. I've never played this game, so it's not just nostalgia factor that makes me enjoy this arrangement so much.

This is my 2012 Young Chang Y175, which I'm renting at a reasonable rate. Unfortunately this isn't a perfect take and the microphone placement isn't the best. The bass notes are a little bit muffled.

Keep in mind that this piano was sitting in a box just a week ago. It has been tuned and regulated before delivery, but I'm waiting a few more weeks for it to settle before getting it tuned at my place. So sorry that it is slightly out of tune.

They were both excellent recordings. I preferred the Yong Chang version because of the resonances. Lovely piano lacking in nothing. (you can have too much bass) You can adjust them on the software pianos I think, and add a bit (lot) o` reverb. Stop worrying about the sound.

I'e played around with different mic arrangements too, and so far my favorite is from the pianist's point of view, with the mic just above your head. You get a good balanced sound IMO. I really enjoy your playing and the sound you are getting is lovely.

What recording equipment did you use, and where did you position the mics?

Thanks for the suggestion Morodiene. I was thinking about hanging the microphone from my ceiling to place it in player position. The microphone is a Blue Yeti USB typically used for voice recording. I'm thinking about getting an XLR microphone and using my two mics in this configuration: http://innig.net/music/recordings/method/mics.html

Currently it is sitting on top of the music stand, which is the simplest to set up.
