SAN FRANCISCO members! - 09/20/08 04:28 AM

Any members located in San Francisco interested in meeting up for piano parties or events? I've been looking enviously at those East Coast piano party pictures and they look like so much fun! Would love to do something similar for the Bay Area...all levels welcome, but would love to establish contact with some fellow adult beginners like me smile

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 10/13/08 10:03 PM

I am interested. I live in the city and have very limited abilities. Unfortunately due to a lack of time, I am very limited in my practice time and lessons. However, my love for the piano and its music is equal to the more advanced player. How many people have showed interest?

I'm very interested in participating in such an event! I agree, those East Coast piano parties look like so much fun. It'd be great to have a piano party in the Bay Area. smile

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 10/14/08 01:55 AM

I'd try to come, even though I'm 200 miles away. (Weather permitting a trip over the Sierra.)

I have always looked with envy at those lucky East Coaters' photos!

I would be up for a piano party. I live in San Rafael near the Civic Center.

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 10/14/08 06:16 AM

I'd also like to start a piano club in Marin County/North Bay. The idea would be to meet regularly at different members' houses to share music, techniques, ideas, etc. and to attend recitals/concerts as a group. Any Marin/North Bay folks out there? Of course, players from other parts of the Bay Area would be welcome as well, if you don't mind the commute.

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 10/15/08 12:00 PM

I would like to attend these parties however I can not host any yet. I live in a North Beach apartment with my wife and three kids and do not have room for a Piano, unless of course everyone is interested in a keyboard party. We can hear Beethoven played on wind chimes with maybe a jazz rhythm in the background. Actually, I would be happy to bring good wine to any of the parties since I can not host one yet.

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 10/15/08 06:39 PM

Wow I'm so glad to finally get some replies! smile

Does anyone feel like they can host a party? I am sure a lot of you have much nicer places/pianos than I.

I am willing to be a host if everyone don't mind my very humble abode (and I'm not saying this just to be modest!). My rented apartment isn't very big, and I own a humble upright...but if these aren't a problem count me in as a host!

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 12/17/08 09:02 PM

It doesn't seem anyone is interested in carrying through as the posts ended in October. For the record, I am still interested.

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 12/20/08 10:06 AM

Thanks for reviving this thread scholarr...Anyone else who's still interested? I am afraid that not too many folks regularly check this area of the forums. Please PM me with an email address if any of you are still interested. I will gather all contacts within the next few weeks, and then arrange a gathering early next year if there is enough interest. Also please note in you PM if you can/are willing to be a host at some point. I figure this is probably the easiest way to get something going...

PS. I will occasionally post an update to this post to keep this thread up so people can see it...

Thanks to those who have PM'ed me so far!

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 12/23/08 11:37 PM

I live in Los Angeles so I'm a bit far - but I would be more than happy to come to a few piano parties over the course of a year. We have family in the East Bay so we're up that way at least a half-dozen times annually anyway.

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 12/23/08 11:39 PM

AND ... if anyone is in the LA area, I'd be willing to host a small piano party at my townhouse. All I have is an upright, but it'll do.

My daughters are up in Oakland. If the gathering happens to be when I am in the area, I would love to come.

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 01/06/09 12:43 AM

I've sent out email invites to everyone to join a Google Group where our discussions on the party details can take place.

Please PM me if anyone wants to be invited to our group OTHER than the people who are already on my list. Thanks!!

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 05/05/09 05:29 PM

Hey folks! Reading this thread it may seem as though the idea flared up and died, where in fact we've met twice in recent months. Maybe in addition to maintaining the Google group, we should post pictures to the Piano World Forum just so we stay in people's minds.

Anyone have pictures to post? I know there were our share of flashes going off during the festivities...

Fellow San Francisco Areans:

I am hoping some of you might like to come to Moe's Bookstore next Wednesday (May 20, 2009) at 7:30 p.m., as I'll be doing a reading/signing for the paperback (just out) of "A Romance on Three Legs: Glenn Gould's Obsessive Quest for the Perfect Piano." It was nominated recently for the Northern California Book Award for general non-fiction ("Physics for Future Presidents," the great book by UC Berkeley Physics Professor Richard Muller, won, and we were both in the running against Michael Pollan).

My email address in case anyone has questions: katieh@gmail.com.

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 06/28/09 02:22 AM

We had a great time back in April at Karen's (thanks again Karen for being such a gracious host) so it's time again for a Piano Party! Here are some details...

Place: Robert Valenti's residence, in Menlo Park
Date: Saturday, 7/25
Time: 6pm
Who's invited: Anyone with an interest in Piano. Hearty applause guaranteed for all.

Robert's got a nice Schimmel if I remember our conversation from the April piano party.

Please RSVP to "Robert Valenti" or to me ("Ovaltine") and we'll give you directions to Robert's place, and will put you on the email list we've set up to organize our piano gatherings.

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 12/02/09 02:25 PM

I just noticed this thread. My son recently moved to SF to start to graduate program at UCSF. He's a member here, although hasn't posted for a long time - Fred Shoppin. We plan to visit him in April. He misses his piano horribly and is talking about trying to pick up a cheap upright. Anyway, just thought I'd throw this out there to let you know he's there and I'll be there in April if talk of another SF piano party should come up.

Hi kathyk,

Our group is small but strong and everyone is welcome! Our next party is scheduled for January 23, 2009. I will make sure that we post advance notice for all future upcoming events.

Just saw this thread and would like to be added to the list of those in the Bay Area with an interest in these types of get togethers. If there is a Google group, would appreciate info to sign up. Thanks very much for organizing this.

Just learned of this through the newsletter. Definitely interested. My place is too small and many of you no doubt have superior pianos. Please keep me informed though!

Darn.....a day late and a dollar short!!! I would attend events in the bay area.

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 05/30/11 09:54 PM

I would as well (South Bay resident here). I've submitted a membership request to the Google Group.

Any members of the Fortnightly Music Club around? I've been curious about that, but haven't ever gotten around to investigating beyond attending a concert or two.

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 06/02/11 08:55 PM

I'd like to bring your attention to this meetup series: EBMC's Monthly Concert/Party/Jam. The first half is a concert by volunteer amateur musicians (you can visit EBMC's website to get an idea of what we play) and the second half is a potluck dinner with a jam session afterward. All attendees are welcome to play during the jam session and we are always looking for more volunteers.

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 02/25/15 11:58 PM

I should have thought to mention it here before, but the Bay Area Piano Enthusiasts meetup is now over a year old. We've had events at various places (piano stores, a member's home) around the Bay Area. Some of the past events have programs linked from the meetup descriptions. Please join us! All are welcome.

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 08/05/16 04:28 AM

Greeting Bay Area Pianists! I am new to this area and am looking to join small to medium sized piano gatherings where we may socialize, perform, and share our love for the repertoire of this fine instrument, its history and support each other. Some of the Bay Area Piano Meetups appear to be quite massive in number. Any leads? I am looking forward to attending such a gathering soon!

Re: SAN FRANCISCO members! - 08/10/16 06:33 PM

Looks like this thread is 11 years old, but it was just mentioned in the latest Pianoworld email.

My studio is too small to host but I'm definitely interested. Please keep me in the loop.

BTW, I am an amateur player of jazz/standards more or less, but I'm interested in all kinds of piano.
