Does anyone know of some cool music games or apps that would help a beginner learn piano?

Piano Maestro by Joytunes and Piano Marvel are pretty good. Neither will actually "teach" you how to play the piano, you still need a good teacher for that. But the apps are pretty good at helping you practice what you've learned. They are basically a collection of graded material (1,000-2,000 pieces) that helps you build up your music reading skills.

Another decent one is Note Trainer by Thoor software. It will drill you on notes and chords on a MIDI keyboard. Good for learning to play in a particular key.

I've tried a lot of apps, but these were the ones that were effective in the long run.

Rhythm Teacher is a free android app that teaches sight reading rhythms. It's built like a game with levels of increasing difficulty.

Yes, additional practice is exactly what I was thinking, definitely not an app for *teaching* piano.
These are all helpful, thanks!

I'll be taking note of these as well. Great recommendations! :)

I know this is an old thread, but here is something I've been building for some time and am finally making it public.

https://pianop.ly/

It's basically karaoke for piano, and my daughter inspired it. She's almost 5 and loves it. It synchs with the original music videos for songs, so she can play along to Taylor Swift or whatever is her favorite song and video at the moment. It helps a lot if you put colored stickers on the white keys (red orange yellow green blue purple and pink/magenta for CDEFGAB)

I'd be interested in getting feedback on it. We find it tons of fun.

I have heard Piano marvel is pretty good especially if you are a beginner. Any other worthwhile recommendations would be great!

I recommend piano marvel or playground sessions.

Magic Piano by Smule can help to improve the rhythm skills (it is the only thing that this app can teach you), OK for beginners.
Simply Piano by JoyTunes is better, you can actually play the piano (even with both hands).
Piano Lessons by OnlinePianist, useful tutorials on how to play the piano.
