An exceptional talent, he passed away May 9th, 2022 at age 76. Was runner up to Christina Ortiz in the 1969 Van Cliburn competition.
Made few recordings, but the ones he did make (Nojima plays Liszt on Reference Recordings) were so superb that they were later plagiarized by Joyce Hatto.
I own both Reference Recordings of Nojima plays Liszt and Nojima plays Ravel, and his reading of "Gaspard de la Nuit" is a chilling, hair raising, scary spectacle, best heard in the dark.
