Hi folks,

I've been playing for 40 years. My childhood teacher was not rigid about technique; we practiced scales, but the focus was on learning the notes and fingering.

Now, as an accomplished adult amateur, I'm very unhappy with my precision, especially during faster passages. This becomes especially evident when playing fast scales, arpeggios, and chord passages.

Any suggestions on how I can improve my precision?

Set your metronome to a slow tempo and practice each passage slowly. After you can play it perfectly 10 times, increase the tempo on the metronome one notch. Continue this way until you are at tempo.

Look at your hands to see if you are choreographing your hands efficiently. Make adjustments to your fingering, arm angle and wrist angle until you can move smoothly.

Pay attention to your body and make sure you are relaxed - shoulders, back, elbows, arms, wrists, etc.
