There was considerable discussion of this in the Pianist Corner back in 2007.

For example :

Hatto Hoax

Nice find! But it's hard to believe that the experts don't recognise such copies... or is that video itself a hoax laugh

There was an article in the New Yorker as I recall.

I must have missed it the first time around on PW.

I watched something about this awhile ago (maybe even this video) and though I was a little familiar with the story, didn't realize she released several recordings with fictitious orchestras. How did that avoid being noticed immediately?

Here is one of the artists she ripped off.

Hamelin didn't recognize his own recording of some of the ChopGods when they turned up in the Hatto version. Granted, they were tweaked a little, but still, you'd think something would sound a bit familiar.

I think people on the whole just want to believe a story like that could be true. I mean it's tragic, with its own form of romance.

Here's the entire New Yorker magazine article from 2007.

For those in the UK there's a dramadoc being shown by the Beeb on the 27th. I guess it shows the level of interest in this still. Here's a trailer....

Those old Hatto threads here at PW were quite good.

Thanks for posting this. I fortunately receive BBC1 (and BBC2) here in Holland.

Yea, this is the weirdest thing, when I listen to another recording of something I've played, if they play it the "same way" I would take notice. That's pretty impressive modification.

I think if they are really "original" in some way, then I think they can be appreciated in their own way, with some caveats of course lol.
