What's the good price??? - 04/02/06 02:10 AM

We just saw Kawai GM-12 at Kawai delear and have few questions..

1. Is it 100% made in Japan??
2. What is the difference btw GM10 & GM12? Is there any review on GM12? I was advised that GM12 was recent model.
3. What will be the good price on GM12?

Does anyone own this piano? If so, how do you like it?

Thank you for your response~~

According to this site :

the difference between the two is that the Kawai GM12 is very much like the GM10, but has the millenium action. Perhaps Kawai (website?) will explain what the millenium action is.

Remember, however, that at 5 feet it is a "baby" grand, and many would advise against buying a grand that small.

The GM-12 is only just becoming available. It will most likely be a little higher priced than the GM-10LE, as it has the new Millennium-III carbon composite action.

The GM-12 is made in Japan and is an awesom little baby grand, plays nice and will hold up very well under home use. The GM-12 replace the GM10LE model made in Japan. They sell out west for about $11,000 to $13,000.00 Retail is higher than that. Kawai is a very good product and the manufacturer stands behind the product better than most.

The Gm-10 is made now in Indonesia and does not perform quite nearly as nice as the Japanese counterpart.

Don't be afraid to move forward on this piano, you will be pleased.

We just purchased a Kawai GM12. I can confirm from what I was told by the sales lady that GM10K is made at Kawai factory in Indonesia and GM12 is made at Kawai factory in Japan. They are identical in size 5'0" and differ slightly by the action and the "soft-fall" fallboard. We decided to go with Kawai because both of my sister-in-law have Kawai. One has Kawai's Grand Piano and the other their upright.
What I was told by the sales lady and confirmed by this link http://www.bluebookofpianos.com/kawai.htm is that GM12 has a list price for the US market at $12,800 USD. I was told again by the sales lady that they have a Kawai promotion and she is giving me a very "special" price at $8,839 which is 31% off the list price. I'm very curious at the validity of this "special" price. I would appreciate any information on what is the going price for this piano. Has anyone purchase this GM12 at the price I bought it for? I thought it was a good price, but I can't seem to find any going prices on the Internet.
Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

31% off list is a very good price. Kawais seem to sell at higher than normal discounts fairly regularly. According to Fine normal discounts are 15-25%. A bunch of folks seem to be getting bigger discounts on Kawais recently, though.

Larry Fine's 2006-2007 Annual Supplement has a price of $12,790 for a GM-12 in ebony or polished ebony and has a price of $13,990 for polished mahogany or snow white. At 25% off these prices then become $9,593 and $10,493 and at 30% off these prices become $8,953 and $9,793. For what it's worth.

Just want to provide additional info so people can compare Apples with Apples. The GM12 that I got is the polished ebony.

May I ask, Cougar, in which state/city did you get your GM 12 from?

I recently saw soemthing on this forum that in Northern California bay area, pianos are more expansive...
Is 25% off this list price ($12,800) a good deal?

I doubt if Cougar will respond quickly. This thread is more than two and a half years old. It would be much more productive for you to click on the Piano Buyer link in the right column to read the pricing guide and price listings.
