Best cloth for regular 'polishing' cleaning hi gloss ebony? - 06/14/13 10:37 PM

Hi all. Just wondering what people use as they pass by in front of their piano, and feel the "need" to rub a light cloth over it.

I was thinking microfiber cloth... certainly not a paper towel. mad I know there are polishing spryas on the market, btu I mean jkust a cloth to keep nearby... I do not plan on using it regularly, but what would I use in passing?

Links to website products appreciated. Thanks. Cheers.

For simple dusting, the best are the microfiber polishing cloths which have a woven nap. Quality ones can be purchased at motorcycle or car detailing shops.

Best thing since sliced bread!

Hi,

I use one of those swifters on a handle and go lightly in one direction. even when i use a micro towel, it leaves swirls. so I'll dust with the swifter but if I need to remove a handprint or something, I'll spray with the corey high gloss cleaner and use their micro towel that came with it. my PE finish will swirl otherwise. Of course, I go crazy and contort myself to see those swirls (as nobody sees them) but I know they're there and proceed to drive myself insane. can you tell I have a new piano?

The BEST cloth to use is the one you get with the purchase of a piano from my shop grin Seriously though, a clean (preferable) old diaper is very good. More important is the chemical you use, and we highly suggest a product called Brillianize ( www.brillianize.com). We use this product in the store, and provide a bottle to our customers.

Now, is there any other way to get our polishing mitt that goes perfectly with the bottle of Brillianize? [Linked Image]

Buy some microfibre cloth, but not in normal store, but in the car-detailing store. Google will help you to find some in your local area. They are MUCH better than the cloths from regular shops.

And, as the paint is acrylic, so you can buy some nano-coating spray (also in car-detailing shop) and put it onto, so it will take much less dust and other bad things like figerprints will be much easier to remove.

Very important, do not ever wash the microfirbe cloth in softening gels/liquids as normal washing. Just use normal washing powder without any softeners, so in this way your dedicated piano cloth will be long lasting.

In the 80's I was at a Yamaha presentation and got a polishing mitt as a parting gift. It's a soft felt-type cloth with their logo and it works quite well. I wouldn't recommend a thick stiff felt, but a thin soft one should be ok. But the best thing is a soft cloth diaper, as was already mentioned.

However, micro-fiber was unheard of in the 80's. I think that there are many new offerings which surpass older solutions.

Speaking of older solutions, if I had a PE finish that I wanted to keep in perfect condition, I would probably use a feather duster made of natural ostrich feathers. The fronds are soft and have microscopic hooks which pick up dust. You can get a real feather duster at any store with a good selection of cleaning supplies for about $10.
