Yamaha M1 Piano

Yamaha M1 Piano - 08/09/12 02:52 PM

I am considering purchasing a Yamaha M1 made around 1988. The seller is asking $2,000. I appears to be in good condition and well maintained. $2,000 still seems a bit steep to me. I think this one was made in Japan for the U.S. market. Does anyone have any thoughts on how much this piano should be worth?

I also see a Yamaha P22T made around 1994 for $1650. I know that a lot will depend on how the pianos were maintained, but assuming all is equal, which is the higher quality piano?

My $0.02, which might be an optimistic appraisal of its worth, would be to go for the P-22.

The experts here say that in used pianos, condition is paramount. If the M1 has been cared for properly, it could be the better piano, though the price seems sort of high. I've spent many hours playing an M1 and it was a good piano. I've also had lessons on a P-22 and liked it as well. Both had light actions that were very even.

Have a tech check them out, and go for the one in better condition. Make a lower offer on the M1, though.

YMMV, HTH, etc.

The P22 would be considered better and and especially with less years and money needed.
