Have just watched Beth_Francis video and all has become clear. Thanks.
***Edit*** Thanks Casinality for yr comment - can see now that my question was very vague, perhaps because I wrote it at around 3.00 am. I can't upload a photo, but I can attempt to clarify the problem.
In the second measure, on the Treble Staff, there are 3 'G' notes linked to 'diminished' F Sharp, which seems to suggest that the F Sharp is played first as a short note, followed by the G as a longer note. I'm 'almost' sure that must be the case, yet I get confused when I watch videos where it looks as though the G is played first - and, as I say, my teacher has written in 'long short' above these notes, which has added to my confusion.*****
*****I posted this question a couple of days ago, then deleted it immediately because the 'answer' seemed so obvious. But now I'm not so sure!! At a recent lesson, my teacher focused mainly on Laura, which I'd been doing for some time and suggested that I move on to Chattanooga .... She gave me some quick pointers - and wrote 'Long/Short' at the top of the page where the first 'grace notes' appear.
All seemed very straight-forward till I started to play. The notes to me seem to clearly indicate 'short-long' - so I've been playing the black F Sharp very quickly and then the G. However, there's a constant 'niggle' that this is wrong. I've watched different videos - Syndal's is very good - but my 'strong conviction' that what I'm doing is correct seems to waver constantly.
