Thanks to a generous member of my extended family (and a piano-lessons-for-her-daughter barter laugh ) I have begun playing violin. Who can argue with free violin lessons?

I quite surprised myself by 1) being about to play scales in tune right off the bat and 2) being able to generate a good tone w/o the screeching and scratching I feared. (helps to have someone who knows what they are doing show you) I'm having a blast!

As to the piano teacher gig, I haven't yet done much more than listen to her play the music she knows. But I'm also looking forward to the experience of teaching someone else. My own piano teacher is enthusiastic about it and his mentorship will be invaluable. smile

At my college once a year we do a 'grade-one-athon' where people learn a completely new instrument and take their grade one exam on it and are sponsored for a particular charity to do so. We then have a grade one orchestra concert laugh. It's a lot of fun.
