I found a very talented young lady today on you tube and then followed up and found some other very nice recordings.

Edited - I don't think this thread is worthy of her talents and out of respect for her, I wouldn't want her finding it. So sorry, S R.

She is obviously incredibly good for 11... maybe 1 out of 200 or 1000 could play that well at that age. But everything is relative. Remember, she is playing the Chopin e minor Waltz whereas Kissen recorded the e minor *concerto* to great acclaim at 12.

I played the same waltz almost as well a few years later agewise and I'm light years away of professional level. I think her Rachmaninov Prelude is quite good technically but terribly metronomic and played at one dynamic level. And I also played this work a few years after she did agewise.

I think when I said she could as good as 1 out of 1000 it is quite a compliment. Why do you think she is even more special?

My guess is the large majority of successful professional pianists were far better than her at an equivalent age.

By putting her in comparison with Kissen I was trying to point how everything is relative when it comes to being "good".

I enjoyed her talent and performances tremendously. I just don't think she's anywhere near where you seem to think she is as far as pianistic talent goes.

I wonder where some of the piano teachers on the forum would rate her talent.

If you read all my posts carefully, you'll see that all I said each time was that I thought she was good but not as good as you seemed to imply in your first post.

I even said she might be as good as 1 out of a 1000 pianists for her age which seems like a very positive statement.

I don't see how this would discourage anyone from posting youtube performances in the future. Forum memebers constantly disagree about pianists qualitiies here, but they usually don't have to make each post a personal attack.

By contrast in all your posts you said something negative about me. "You are tough on an 11 old kid...If YOU could play as well as she...sorry you could not enjoy her for her talent...the negative attitude I see from you... so have at it PL."

I am impressed, and I am judicious with my compliments. Her control and musicianship are good, though her dress perhaps a bit over-the-top.

Quote correctly please.

Sorry to be getting into a disagreement with you, PL, but I'll say it again...You are one tough cookie!
So why didn't you edit your post after you saw my edited post?

Do you think by saying I didn't give the full sentence when I quoted you it takes anything away from the negative connotations in those posts? If anyone wanted to see the full sentence they could just go back a few posts.

You say "sorry to be getting in a disagreement with you" but then repeat your phrases from earlier posts.

The parts I left out added virtually no additional context. You're trying to make excuses.

I shared a young talent and she is getting left out the thread!

Geeze, Louise!
You've contributed just as much to this mindless argument as he has. If you'd stop arguing and acting so defensive, we might have some actual discussion!

Have already done so FV. As I said in the note you quoted...I give up! Sometimes someone just get's your goat...and PL got mine with not supporting a 12 year old talent!!

I thank you for the reminder though!

And I shall erase all the contributions from above and certainly think twice before sharing something like this here again.
