I posted this over in the AB forum, and I thought some of you would be interested in the book as well but might not see that thread:

Those of you who have enjoyed the book by Daniel Levitin, "This is your brain on music," may want to check out this new book that is to be released in a few weeks by Oliver Sacks:

"Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain"

Sacks is the author who wrote "The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat." Apparently this book explores similar neurological adventures, but this time all of them deal with performing or listening to music. One of his stories is about a man who was hit by lightning (at age 42) but survived, and developed an intense interest in piano.

Anyway, he's a good writer. I've got my copy pre-ordered. smile

Hmm, Gyro, not sure why you'd reply to Monica with that, but...

Monica, I'm looking forward to this as well. I've read a number of Sacks' books, and I really like his way of presenting things. Very interesting and entertaining. He also wrote "A Leg to Stand On" in which he talks about his recovery from a serious leg injury-- and what he as a doctor learned from being a patient with a difficult problem to diagnose and treat.
Thanks for the recommendation and let's discuss it after we have a chance to read it! smile
