Are there any books available produced solely to help improve your sightreading that really work? Say starting with chords then moving on to quaver movements and semi quaver movements and contrapuntal pieces etc.? Or is it just best to try and get hold of as much music as possible and try to keep sight reading different pieces - uis it best to pick pieces that you will sight read perfectly or will struggle through slightly?

Depends on your level.

In the early stages, a programmed sequence of instruction can be very helpful. Later on, ya just gotta do it (preferably in an ensemble setting.)

Well I've moved onto more difficult pieces now (well difficult in terms of school boy playing - beethoven's pathetique is what I'm playing at the moment), but my sight readin has been completely abandoned at about grade 5 level! frown

My teacher had me buy this one:
Speed-Reading at the Keyboard.
By Isacoff, Stuart; Jordan, Julie; Shanaphy, Edward
Published by Warner Bros Pubns (Jun 1, 1987) ISBN: 0943748259

Vol. 1 of 3 is $16.95.

Music is selected that emphasizes specific sight reading skills.

The key is to do as much as you can every day.
