My thread, my rules. Got it?

Answer the following questions:

1. What have you done to generate ill will between you and other posters in the Coffee Room?

2. What specifically do you contribute to the Coffee Room to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone?

Your answers cannot contain the names or any references to any person or group. The only references must be to yourself. No comments on anyone else's post in this thread.

The first person to violate these rules will have this thread renamed in his/her (dis)honor. I will then ask Frank to close the thread.

Hee! OK, I'll play.

1. Early on, I used the phrase "silly wingers" in a few posts. I thought it was a cute term of endearment. It soon became clear that this was not the case, so I stopped.

2. Nothing. Nothing at all. I'm so ashamed! frown

1) Responded to irksome posts too quickly and too honestly.

2) See the "Show us your dogs" thread. smile (My adorable Harley will lighten the darkest of moods.)

Hi Matt,

1. I unintentionally played a part in hurting someone when I fooled around as a sockpuppet last spring. I was anything but serious and thought it was all fun and games, but someone else did not. frown

2. I try to post unoffensive threads with silly quizzes, inane subject matter and polls that anyone can participate in if they want to. I do try to stay out of political threads.

As an aside, I also have a huge crush on the originator of this thread. 2hearts

So Matt dear, how'd I do?

1. I called someone not far from here a nasty name and I can be a bit of a wind up merchant.

2. I occasionally post something thoughtful or funny.

1. What have you done to generate ill will between you and other posters in the Coffee Room?

Honestly, I don't really know. confused I'm labeled a "liberal", a non-fundamentalist Christian, and I really like teasing (editing) some people . Maybe that's it. whome

2. What specifically do you contribute to the Coffee Room to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone?

Again, honestly, maybe my best contribution is that I at least try not to attack people personally, only their opinions and the policies or the political parties and people that they support?

When it gets right down to the nitty gritty, I guess I don't contribute that much at all. I just have my own opinion and convictions about what I think is right and wrong, and I say what I think.

Oops, I didn't read the rules.

1) I try not to generate any ill will. Pretty boring, I know.

2) Not sure I contribute much of anything except a bunch of smile smile smile 's. Sometimes, I post pictures of my disaster of a garage (which should make everyone feel better, since their garages can't possible be filled up with more junk than mine. eek )

1. unmercifully make fun of liberal positions ( wink ) and Kerry with my poetry

1. be too proud of my ability to reason

1. be a super show off:

and 2. make fun of Bush with my poetry offered again below as a consolation prize to the liberals I've offended:

My Fellow Americans

The sphincters that rise
In front of our eyes
Are awesome and mighty and few

In the form of some guys
Who are spouting some lies
In a middle east country or two

Or thoughts we will prize
As we present a disguise
Our time for escuses is threw

Families is where our hopes will surmise
And the wings of our future take dream
All of these things come out of our eyes
And these things are not as they seem

Sometimes we live in a processed world
Just call me American cheese
People do care not about things
As long as we care and say please

God loves you and I love you
You always can count us as two
To fight on your side
As others deride
The terrorists mighty though few.

(Note: rules edited slightly. Please re-read first post.)

My answers:

1. I have allowed my own skewed sensibilities to get the better of me when responding to posts that I find incendiary. This usually leads to a decidedly sarcastic remark that, without the accompanying vocal inflection, is completely unrecognizable as anything other than an insult.

2. I would like to think that I have added to the humorous atmosphere in the Coffee Room. I may give the impression that I'm kind of a pompous stuffed shirt, but I certainly don't take myself seriously.

A PM has been sent to someone who has broken the rules of this thread. I will allow time for the PM to be read and the post modified.

Jodi's breaking of the rules will be allowed stand, since I modified the rules after her post. Ex post facto, donchaknow.

1. What have you done to generate ill will between you and other posters in the Coffee Room?

I've allowed anger to get the better of my judgment many times, and said things that I shouldn't have. Once in a while, it has been a real blatant, vicious flaming; more typically, it's been couched somewhat with diplomacy and sarcasm. I've almost completely succeeded in eliminating the former, but sometimes the latter still occurs - and to be honest, I don't want to completely give up the art of gentle sarcasm. It's one of my favorite vices.

I don't post a lot, but what I do post could probably be better said in half the words. I suppose it's a bad thing to put half the forum members online at any given time to sleep.

I've shown a lot of my worst, even when I knew I shouldn't.

2. What specifically do you contribute to the Coffee Room to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone?

I try to work on the issues in item 1 above.

I try to share my thoughts and opinions in a genuine spirit of sharing with friends or at least respected acquaintances, even when disagreeing. In topics where I'm not an expert, I'll more likely read and/or ask questions of those who are, rather than pretend that I'm one myself. In topics where I am an expert, I try to share that expertise without trying to come off as a know-it-all or arrogant.

I try not to continue circular arguments, realizing when everything that's going to be said has already been said, and walk away.

I try to realize that for whatever reason, there will always be a few people that I cannot discuss matters with because of total mutual incompatibility - and rather than cause or continue unnecessary, inevitable arguing, I simply won't converse with them.

When I do blow it, and say something that I shouldn't have, I try to apologize - usually both publicly and privately - and will try to move forward from that point.

I try to participate with the midset that I can always say more, but should usually say less. In that light, I try to not feel like I have to get the last word in every discussion, even though I still might have more to say.

I try to show my best as much as I can, even when I don't feel like it.

For at least the past year, I've tried very hard to live by kathyk's sig line, even before she published it.

1. What have you done to generate ill will between you and other posters in the Coffee Room?

I started a thread with a (seemingly) dirty link that was meant as a joke, but the thread looked genuine enough to prevent a few people from checking the link to find out, resulting in a small argument. I was in the wrong, and I should have stated that it was a joke from the first. Other than that, I'm perfect. laugh

2. What specifically do you contribute to the Coffee Room to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone?

I can't really answer that, as I don't know the effect my posts have on people.

1. I've told people what they don't want to hear, from someone they didn't want to hear it from.

2. See the above response.

As evidenced by our latest big thread which outstripped in one day, the entire number of posts in the Tea Room, nothing pleases this crowd more than rubber-necking a good wreck.

And none are without sin.
