This is a pet project of mine for the last 3+ years. It's a free online piano guide of all the major manufacturers and their models. It has pictures, prices, specs and information. It's called http://www.pianoworld.com/advertising/

Feedback is welcome! Hope you enjoy.

Great another online place to see MSRP through the roof on products that are way over priced compared to others.

BTW Charles Walter is not located in China. They are located in U.S.A.

I am seeing many issues that need attention but the idea is good.

Lots of hard work to have produced this, but have to agree with Rod. Update, update, update.

Glen:

Congrats - nice job!

How did you arrive at the pricings for pianos?
Was the information published by Piano Buyer your guide?

This concept popped up in another thread recently. I wonder if this is where the misinformation is coming from?

Impressive site!

IMO using the MSRP for the selling price or as a starting place to estimate the selling price makes little sense as has been explained in the Piano Book and the Piano Buyer for the last 20 years or so. The MSRP is mostly irrelevant except to the most uneducated shoppers.

I believe the Piano Buyer can be searched by price(SMP)and estimated/hoped for discount from SMP, so it seems like what you are trying to do on your site has been already accomplished there but with far more meaningful figures. Also, the PB figures are updated every six months. The PB also contains tons of other useful information about buying a piano.

Are you aware of the Piano Buyer and it contents?

PLU - If you don't like it, why don't you compile your own online guide? Your perfect creation would be preferable to your sarcasm and rudeness.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Ooops on the Charles Walters... fixed. I had it correct on the secondary page but not the first for some reason. Rod you mentioned there are many issues... if you care to bring them to light i'm all ears and appreciate the help. And yes we're all aware of SMP and prices on pianobuyer... the fact remains that these are the PUBLISHED prices from the makers themselves. What I had written in the intro was that these prices are usually inflated by some 20-40%... i think that's just a given from the manufacturers. My hope is to combine visuals and data with pics to create a simple to use guide.
Cheers

Nice work! It'd be great to throw in prices/TMV (true market value - Edmunds.com) or heck, wholesale prices. That would be a better starting point smile. Just

I'd offer you some programming help, but it might be a while.

did you get Charles Walter and Henry Miller mixed up? Don't laugh but I didn't grow up knowing C Walter until I read about it recently and when I went to Sherman Clay's and saw the Henry Miller's (China) I got it mixed up with C Walter's. Hehe... Then I asked, why is this brand new, handmade, 5'10" grand from the famous American maker only $7000? Good thing I didn't buy it.

As I explained, there already is an online guide that does things correctly.

The visuals are good idea, but since each manufacturer's selection of MSRP is completely arbitrary, they are of virtually no value as a guide for reasonable selling prices. The MSRP's are in fact highly misleading. Unfortunately, the fact that they are published does not make them useful. The SMP which is calculated by a consistent formula from dealer wholesale cost. That is whole point of Fine's use of the SMP. That is why they are so much more useful than the MSRP.

However, using the forum for advertising is against the rules.
