Hello,

I recently bought a new house that to my surprise included a piano. The previous owners left it as a house warming gift. The piano is is fairly good shape. I am wondering if anyone can tell me the year it was made and approximate value. The piano is a Willis & Co. Ltd. upright with three pedals, Serial number #26563. It has a lovely sound to it, had been tuned recently per the note left by previous owners and was used for lessons. The only sad part is someone took white paint to it. Is it worth the time and effort to restore it to it's original wood surface?

Thanks so much,
Mazama

It was built around 1924, and its value is what you paid for it.

It is not worth restoring to its original finish, which was very labor-intensive, but depending on how you value your time and effort as well as your decoration scheme, it could be refinished, provided that the white paint was not to hide a serious surface defect. But that will not add much value to the piano, which has over 80 years working against it.

Thank you for answering my question. I don't know why they painted it white, it's a shame really. Considering it didn't cost me anything and was recently tuned; I will keep it as is...for the time being any ways. laugh
