I always wonder things like this and seeing as this is an adault beginner forum, I was curious as to what everyone here does in their every day life? What types of adult piano students read this forum and are learning to play...9-5'ers, graveyard shift Docs, stay at home Moms/Dads...

What do you do and how often do you try and get time to sit and enjoy the piano?!!

I'm a freelance illustrator. I have my keyboard in my studio so practice isn't really a problem unless I'm struggling to meet a tight deadline.

I am a ships navigation officer. I play 30min a day usually, unless there is no keyboard at hand! Then I break out my trusty blues harp!

I'm an English teacher in Japan.....40 years old, Aquarius. laugh I teach elementary 1st, 3rd, 5th, Jr. high 1st and 2nd, and high school 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. My practice times are sporadic. I may practice 10 minutes one day and 2 hours the next. Been playing guitar close to 25 years. Started piano in November 2007. Piano is a hobby for me, I have no dreams of ever using this as a way to live, so I don't want to force myself to practice. I do what I can when I feel like it. If it becomes a chore I'll quit.........and I don't want to quit so I do it at my own pace.

Materials technology, being a mother of two kids, housework, singing (amateur, but dedicated), always hoping to practice at least one hour a day, don't allways succeed in that wink

I work part time at a local Chinese restaurant. I serve there 3 days a week including Friday and Saturday nights, which is hard.

I teach Kindermusik and I teach piano, though I don't advertise yet because I am not ready to take that on full time.

I take care of my 2 children who are in elementary school, so there is a lot of running back and forth to programs, though thankfully their programs are all in my small town so it is only a couple minutes away.

I lead worship at my church with my husband

I volunteer with our local and newly formed Arts and Culture Group.

I just finished doing a play with a local theater group called "Get Married or die trying" Very funny and lots of fun.

With all of that I am also studying piano. I am preparing for my Grade 9 RCM exam and gearing up to take my set of theory courses.

I practice anywhere from 2-4 hours a day depending on my time.

Retired "gentleman of leisure" - lifelong passion for many different kinds of music from Bluegrass thru The Beatles to Broadway musicals to Bach - started piano 2 1/2 years ago - self instructing & liking it that way just fine (sometimes we're our own toughest critics & taskmasters) - typically have 3 separate practice sessions daily totally anywhere from 4 to 6 hours (you can often do this when you're retired) - practice alot because (1) I love it! and (2) trying to make up for all that lost time (over 60 years!) - getting fairly good fairly quickly as you might hope & expect with all that practice time being invested (but never as good as or as quickly as one would like) - ultimate goal is to play a large part of the Great American Songbook (pop hits of 30s & 40s) from memory - before that memory goes! The race is on! Thanks for asking. JF

IT Director for a big consulting firm. Part-time guitar player and cyclist. Full time husband, dad and fearless tamer of household creatures.

I play 1/2 to 1 hour a day, spread out between 2-3 sessions. Have played 'at' the piano for a long time, mostly learning pop/rock riffs and chord piano. Started taking legitimate lessions in 2005, working through the John Thompson books. I'm now in the 5th grade books, and working through Hanon and Czerny op. 299. (just started it).

Goal is to get through the JT books, then start back building jazz/blues/rock chops.

College professor of psychology, working mom of two. That leaves way too little time during the workweek to practice (15-45 minutes a day), so I try to make up for it on the weekends (2-3 hours).

On May 3rd I am turning in my final grades and then going on sabbatical for an entire year, where I will be "working at home" (snicker, snort) and hopefully getting all the time in at the bench I could ask for...

English professor. I try to practice an hour a day. I live five minutes from work, so I justify my practice time by telling myself that I'm using the time I save commuting to play the piano. And if Wayne Booth (famous professor from the University of Chicago) could get in an hour of cello practice a day, why can't I?

By the way, some of you may be interested in Booth's book on being an amateur musician, "For the Love of It."

Sort of retired enterprise HR and payroll systems consultant. Haven't worked for a while, and if the stock market doesn't pop my balloon, won't have to.

I just hang out, jaw-bone with the neighbors, play the piano about 3 hours a day, and sometimes do work around the house. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.
