Hello. I am interested to know if there are people out there who would be interested in a group based on working through Carl Humphries' Piano Handbook. Any takers?
cheers, Stan

Saw - I am half way through Alfred's Adult Course book 2 and on page 69 (exercise 3.1) of Humphries book. I am going very slowly and I am concerned about keeping up with a group, but I am willing to try until the group gets too far ahead of me. Let me know when you get to exercise 2.3 - I cannot get the tempo to match the recording in the second half, probably a rookie sight reading problem, but I can't find where I am getting off track.

saw, I created a link to this thread from the Beginner-Intermediate Level Piano Groups thread . Be patient, it may take a while to find others who might want to work through this with you. Can you tell us a little more about the Carl Humphries' Piano Handbook? Any testimonials out there?

I would be interested. I've been meaning to purchase this through Amazon for months. Before I sign on the dotted line, I'll need to look through the book again. I'm already in the Chopin Raindrop group--well over my head, but still treading water. Opus and I sit at the back of the classroom, hoping we won't we noticed.
I'll keep checking this thread. I'm also signed up with Linus and Lucy, but haven't the music yet.

I'm sitting behind FurElise in the Chopin Raindrop group - way behind.
I really like the Piano Handbook. So far I am self-taught and this book has helped to fill one of the big holes in my teaching, that is selecting pieces to try to play.
I have the Alfred's books, and I like them too, but I'm not in love with their song selection. I am more interested in Classical music. I have bought a couple books of Classical sheet music, but most of what I want to play is over my head. So this book is a nice middle ground, it has, for me at least, a selection of music that I enjoy that is (sometimes) within my grasp.

I see this thread dropping down and getting lost, so I thought that I'd post to see if others were interested in persuing this group. Of course, I need to purchase the book first.
Copper--glad that someone's behind me in Raindrop--I can use the company. I've also ordered the music to Linus and Lucy--heck it's only 4 flats and that will more than likely confuse me.

I have the book, but have never used it much....if you all get something going I'd probably join in!
When I reach the place I'm going, I will surely know my way.

I am a beginner and I just bought this book. I have not started it yet, but would be interested to work through it with other people. I just don't know how this would work. Would it mean setting up a dialog here and posting and answering questions? Thanks.

OK, everybody. There seem to be a few people with definite interest in going through this book. So, I am changing this thread to initiate the group.
I am currently working on ex. 2.3, trying to get the left hand pattern nailed down.
If anyone has suggestions regarding getting the group organized, please... feel free.
thanks for your interest! Let's move forward.
Stan

Group - Well, here we go.....I am on exercise 3.1.. it take me at least a week or two to learn exercises and then 2-3 weeks to get the piece to an acceptable level before I move on(depressing when you look at people working on huge pieces and I take so long on these little "pieces of pieces") If you look ahead to the end of Unit 2, there are scales and chord patterns to learn. I refused to move on until I had them all memorized and it took forever until I read the last paragraph (yes, I did not see the pattern until he showed it to me). At the moment, I am one handed as I have hurt my right wrist doing lawn work (my wife says riding my motorcycle and/or the piano is at fault, but I am positive it was the yard work....)so I will be slower than normal. I am looking forward to this group as it will give me short term goals and perhaps force me to move. I am interested in how long it takes others to learn and move on.....I am certain I take too long, but I enjoy the finishing part of the process so much more than the beginning. Anyway, here we go....I am willing to do this with the group and will accept anyone's ideas on the best way to help each other.
BTW saw, 2.3 has become one of my favorites....I really like the piece - I sound like I know what I'm doing (have the wife fooled..I think...)

Book = The Piano Handbook Hi gmm1; Found this old message, and just wanted to check with you on how you are progressing with this book? Do you think it helps beginners? I am interested in this one, and the Improvising the Blues book. I have Fabers Piano Adventures book 1 and Alfreds book 1 ( the adult ones ) and will start on them here in a couple of weeks when we return from vacation. Anyone else use this book? Thanks, Flat 7
