Is is measured from the bottom of the case to the top of the lid or from the floor(casters add about 2 inches) to the top of the lid?

From the floor to the top of the case.

Manufactures include the casters.

So if I replace the casters on my CW1500 with 18 inch tires, I'll have about a 52 inch piano. That should improve my sound quality by 15% (since height and sound quality are directly proportional), and give me one of the fastest pianos around to boot.

18 inch casters would raise the piano about 16 inches. I think you need to spend less time on the piano and work on your math skills. Piano may be fun, but better math will help you pay for it.

BDB,

It was my intention to mount the axel of the wheel at the base of the piano; hence, I only included the radius of the wheel in my calculation. It would provide better stability and handling. Maybe you need to spend less time on the piano and work on you mechanical engineering skills. Castors for a 18 inch wheel, that's crazy.

You cannot mount 18 inch wheels with an axle at the base of a piano without a radical redesign of the case. The wheels must pivot without interfering with the plate, which extends to very close to the bottom of the piano. The wheel would also have to extend beyond the rear of the piano in order for the center of gravity to be within the wheelbase. So the only way you can mount them is as casters underneath the piano.

Mathematics is the best self-defense skill you can learn.

Not necessarily. You could mount the 18" wheels outboard enough where they'd have enough room to pivot. laugh
