hello, i played these two pieces a few days ago when my class had a "performance night".
the piano was awful and i am sorry for this brutal sound of the wonderful third version of Op.25/1 - i love this piece so much.
it was the first time i played both studies in public so the performance not yet that superior wink the sound is recorded by a camcorder (!) - poor quality, but you can detect which pieces are meant smile
feel free to share your opinion, critics and so on...
the files (mp3) are on my homepage (it is german, but you will find the "godowsky" - just the first to links) and about 2.3 mb.

Great piece of music. Good for you you are working on it. You are an inspiration. I have never more than read this etude, but now that I hear it played for real (Hamelin is unreal), maybe I'll give it a try for a while!

How long have you been working on it?

I like that you can follow the cantus really well and the main counterpoint line sings.

P.S. the person coughing scared me to death!

I have no affiliation with Bluthner, I just like their pianos a lot.

here is a second recording from a recital of the piano faculty of my music school at the bechstein-center berlin.
in my opinion the A flat major - study is better than its first recording. i am not sure how to rate the c sharp minor-study, maybe it is not as good as its first recording.
these are the links:
Op.10/9, first version

Op.25/1, third version

once more feel free to criticize me smile

@Bluthner: i've played both studies about one year ago, the i refreshed them in january and now in march.
i've been working on them for about 3 months all in all plus maybe two weeks for refreshing them in january and another two weeks for refresh in march. they are quite comfortable to play. the hardest part is getting through all of these small notes, but if you are keen on playing a study, you'll do it.
