Do you stipulate every muscle contraction your student has from beginning to end of a piece? I see it as the secret of effective technique delivery.

snobbyish, yet maybe helpful.

I'm not understanding what you are saying.

Try again?

Every single muscle contraction is directed by the teacher throughout the playing of a piece.

I always tell my students to balance.

You should be balanced over the key(s)for accurate playing.

Your student is a collection of thoughts, feelings and muscle contractions. I am saying they only contract muscles on your direction. I'm not referring to how you direct but what and that you direct. Sorry if it's not coming out clearly. Off to the British Library to do some researching. Check you later.

Are you going to give them instructions as they play or you practice with them telling them which muscles to use for any given passage?

I'm not referring to how you direct but what and that you direct.

Maybe if I put the opposite case: As they play, are your students aloud to move a muscle without you saying so?
