I know this is off topic, but the holidays are getting close and I would like to give my teacher a present (just a thought) and felt that this would be the best place for this post - I'd appreciate any ideas from the experts. Thanks. smile

I'm no expert, but I think what gift you give depends on how close you are to your teacher. How close are you? With that said, and that asked...Earplugs would be a funny, self-deprecatory gag gift. wink

Hi Frank,

She's been my teacher for about 4 1/2 -5 years, it's the thought that counts. I got a kick out of ear-plugs. Have to give that some thought.

Thanks.
smile

My piano teacher and his wife mean a great deal to our family. I spend about $30.00 on a gift certificate to a restaurant or music store, or I put that amount in a card.

My students vary greatly, and some don't give me any gift at all. I especially appreciate the ones who give me a card with cash! Ha!

I think many music teachers would appreciate a gift certificate from a good sheet music store. Other than that, I think many teachers would use gift certifcates from places like amazon.com. Or find out about their non-musical interests.

I give my teachers a gift. My clarinet teacher has told me alcohol is always safe, his favorite clarinetists, and that he generally likes 20th century clarinet music. My piano teacher, I typically get him a piece (or collection of pieces) that he wants. This year it's Joplin's complete rags. (which I have already ordered from sheetmusicplus.com)

VA/MD/England...long story...
a cheap, very useful give to give teachers are a few nice pencils! you can never go wrong with practical gifts. smile

That's right...I have the same birthday as Mozart. If only it meant something and I could have one thousandth of his genius...in my dreams, i suppose.

I think a recording of your best and worst playing. Then your teacher can play it to his or her friends and brag about what a difference has been made. And it is a lasting reminder of you!

Currently playing 2017 C212 with carbon fibre soundboard, WNG action. Working on Bach, Beethoven, Grieg mainly.
