Thought I'd post here on the off chance someone who teaches lives near me. I'm looking for a piano teacher for my 4 yr old daughter. I'm thinking maybe she could do 10-15 min and either my husband or myself (I took piano for years as a kid) could use the rest of the lesson. I live in Howard County Maryland (outside of Baltimore).

Four is a little young to start lessons, although if your daughter is showing great interest, then a little guidance is not a bad thing. You could contact the local branch of the MTNA (Music Teacher's national Association ) or google them for their website, or contact a local university, whose music dept. piano folks might be able to recommend someone near you who does well with very young children. It's a bit of a specialty, and someone who understands the developmental stages of very young children could be a better bet than 'any old piano teacher who happens to be nearby.' There are some symbolic and relational links the very young mind is not ready to grasp that a kid who is, say, six or seven, is better equipped to tackle. Someone who has a background in early childhood development and education might be more successful.
