Teachers,

Does anyone have a list of famous songs or parts of songs that contain all the intervals? I am trying to work on my ear-training and I have heard that it is easisest to start out by learning a song for each interval that way you can always reproduce that interval by singing the song to yourself. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

~pianocliff

P1 (unison) Yankee Doodle
m2 Jaws
M2 Are You Sleeping
m3 Greensleeves (What Child is This?)
P4 Here Comes the Bride
P5 Star Wars theme, Twinkle Twinkle Little star (notes 2-3)
m6 Love Story
M6 My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean, Colors of the Wind (Pocahontas)
m7 There's a Place for Us
M7 UGLY, there's really not a great song that kids know to match this interval, we just call it ugly, and they can always hear it
P8 Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Hope this helps. Most kids don't know all the folk tunes, so it's helpful to find others that work for you. I'd love to see another's list!

For a basic ear training drill, before I start
a practice session, I play middle C with r.h,
then--without looking at the keys; this
is essential to the drill--play the 3 C's
below mid. C with the lt. hand, individually,
that is, not by just spanning an octave with
your fingers; this trains the hands to
find the keys without looking, at the same
time as the ear.

Then play mid. C again with the r.h. and then
play the 3 C's above mid. C with the r.h. in
the same way as above. Repeat with D, E, F,
G, A, B. And then with C#/Db, etc., for 12
individual notes in all. A, G, D, and F,
in that order, seem to be the most difficult
notes to identify on the keyboard, by touch
and/or sound, so you might want to spend
additional time on those.

Gyro,

I don't understand how your method "trains the ear". Are you trying to achieve absolute pitch? I am just drilling my relative pitch (distance between two notes) so I can pick out songs from the radio and recognize intervals by ear.
