Hi, I am not a piano teacher but my cousin who is blind wants to resume her study of piano. She played as a teenager and can read Braille music, but now she wants to take music theory at the local college but the college does not have Braille textbooks (obviously). She is taking piano anyway, but really wants to take music theory. Can anyone point me to any resources where I might be able to find something like this? I went to the National Braille Assoc's website, but I couldn't find very much re: music theory books in Braille.

Thanks!

Here's some information from my husband, who is blind (not a musician).

A major source for braille music and related information is the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, a division of the Library of Congress: http://www.loc.gov/nls/music/index.html

The American Council of the Blind: http://www.acb.org should have sub groups of and for blind musicians.

Another general source of accessible text books on many subjects is Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic http://www.rfbd.org

It is rare indeed that local community colleges have much in the way of accessible books. Usually you're lucky if they have a computer lab with accessible computers using speech output.

These sources should get her started and point to many other resources and groups that can help.
