Has anyone hosted a piano party at their home? I've been thinking about hosting one. What logistics, how many people, etc....any feedback would be welcomed. Now that it's colder, we may be waiting until Spring, so people can go outside, too, but I wouldn't mind hosting one at some point - It would be good to hear better players than me on the piano wink

Hey Koko,

May I ask where you are located? That would help with suggestions.

Terrytunes is a great help for the piano parties that involve PWF members. She would be a great one to have a conversation with. Maybe you could PM her for some ideas.

As you can see, we are coming off a HIGH attending the Cape Cod parties from this past weekend. Check them out.

Koko, go for it! I think I was the first to try it here in the Boston area. That first time we didn't know anyone in person. I asked for the members "real" names and email and then privately gave them instructions.

We had about 20 people that first time and combined the house party with a recital in a nearby town organized by Axtremus.

Now the Boston group, along with some travelers, have large gatherings of nearly 40 people! We have all become good friends and our only complaint is that we don't get together often enough!

We sometimes get together in smaller groups as small as 2 or 3, sometimes more.

In my opinion, winter is the PERFECT time for a gathering. That time of year can be very isolating and dull. There is nothing that warms you better than a evening with friends and good music. smile

Let us know how it goes!

Koko, there was a DC party a year or so ago which could give you a great base of party goers. Markb, Cindysphynx and Catlady (Cathy Harl) all come to my immediate mind - all lovely people.

Look down at the threads in this forum for the reviews of the last couple of DC area parties. Looks like a very fun bunch.

Have it and they will come (is my bet). thumb

In fact, Kathy, kokomo was at Cathy's last party. I remember you kokomo.

We often have parties in people's homes (apartments, condos, etc.) here in NYC and there is quite a variety of party: sometimes everyone brings something, sometimes the host(ess) does all the food, sometimes we all go to a restaurant.

I've been to parties with just a few people and with 40+ people. It comes down to how many people can make it and how much room you've got.

Have a party! I don't think you'll regret it. I remember when I had my first one--the thrill it was to hear other people playing my piano and filling the apartment with wonderful music. It was great.

Dude, when's the party? I cleared my schedule right after I read your first post but haven't heard anything yet. Did I miss it? Was I not invited?

Piano party? Wow, I haven't had one of those since the kids were in high school! Are there any folks in west Michigan who would be interested in attending? Maybe I could plan something around Kalamazoo's Gilmore Keyboard festival...

I go to Atlanta a few times every year. My next trip there will probably be this late February. Then again sometimes in April when there is that Tour of GA bike race (if they can find a sponsor).

I live just north of Atlanta as well. I rarely see people on these forums from Georgia, though. Maybe a few more will respond.

I might show up anywhere to hear LisztAddict play that Chopin piece he posted a couple of weeks ago. Its smoothness and beauty still echo in my head.

I did a search in the Community Dir with "Atlanta" as keyword, 112 names showed up. 8 of them have more than 100 posts so I say you have at least 8 active members in the Atlanta area.

I see Allegro13 has a Bosendorfer. thumb yippie

Thanks, LisztAddict. Let's hope he/she doesn't also have a studio apartment!

It doesn't matter to me as long as there is a nice piano and good food. I'll stand out in the balcony or whatever if I have to. laugh

This is the type of post that motivates me to see other members enjoy a piano gathering. From past experience in attending piano gatherings, all I can say is, there ain't nothing like it!

Using the PW community directory, I've assembled a listing of MI residents who have made available an email address in their member profile.

(MI) Members receiving a message I'm preparing to send will hopefully, follow a link that will be provided to a thread I will open in PW entitled something to the effect of: MI Members!

With any amount of success, MI members will have their own spot on PW to find other interested locals from their area and have better chance at planning a piano party.

If there are any positive results, I'll continue with another state; at which time, volunteers to assist would be welcomed!! wink

Okay, LisztAddict, I've sent a PM to Allegro13 and let him/her know I'll help with a metro Atlanta party. I feel a little shallow to be so strongly motivated by someone's very high quality piano, but...I'll get over it wink

Hi Gang:

Yes, we DO have a Bosendorfer! And when we had a studio apt. in NYC we had a tiny, little digital keyboard.

My sister lives in Vienna, right next door to the Bosendorfer store, so she found me a used one. Nice to have connections!

Nancy, let's figure out a convenient date to set up a party. I'd love to find out who your teacher is, too, so I can take some lessons.

Happy new year,
Allegro13
