If you are from the great state of Michigan and are interested in hosting, planning or attending a piano gathering, please use this thread on PW to find other members who share your interest.

Yes, I am interested in such a gathering.

Email me if you are interested, too.

And tell me what you think of this:

MUSIC, ANYONE?

Have all the horn players died? Are there no living musicians in Troy, Michigan who enjoy playing melodic standards? Am I the only one who still calls that stuff MUSIC?

Email me at davedmg3@comcast.net if you would like to sit in on weekly jam sessions at my home in Troy, Michigan. To hear what I sounded like 20 years ago go to my profile: bandmix.com/profile111367.html.

Like Rosemary e once sang, "come-on-a-my house!" laugh

Definitely interested. Email me at Hockeypro327@yahoo.com. I live in the Birmingham area, which is near Troy, Southfield, and a little ways from Detroit.

BraveDave, your profile is a profile of a band called The Blu Rays from Florida...and there aren't any media files for download.

Gryphon... you are correct; I reside in MA. I have a sizeable collection of MA members (the M&H tours assisted) and wanted to move on and try another location using the community directory. I had read a few posts from MI members desiring to contact other members in the Detroit area for a gathering and wondered what results could be obtained by using the community directory. Thank goodness for copy/paste!!

Hopefully this thread will grow over time. Members who reside in MI have a place to post their willingness to participate in or host a gathering.

BTW, if you ever decide to host a gathering, I'm usually in MI around the 1st wknd in Aug for family reunion! laugh

Hi, Michiganers. I was over in Grand Haven for the wedding of the grandson of an late piano-playing friend of mine a couple weeks ago, and as we were setting up a rented Yamaha console in the 2nd floor reception hall, he commented that the ghosts of the place were probably turning over in their graves. Apparently the building was the original site of the Story & Clark piano factory.

Here's what it now looks like from the outside:

It's now sort of a mall and located at the end of the main drag right before the water. I did a little exploring for any markings of the original factory and found this up on the 3rd Floor:

The very knowledgeable lady in the hat shop told me the safe is in the location where the owner's office used to be. I also found this very old piano down in the pub:

Checked with the museum across the street and they indicated , as I suspected, that their archives were the source of the historic photos hanging throughout the building and that they can duplicate them for anyone interested for a nominal fee.

very cool post, Howard!! thanks for sharing your msg and pics.

I wish the Ivers and Pond building was still around in the Cambridge area but from what I've read, MIT tore it down many years ago after they purchased the land. frown

Count me in! We're in the southwest corner of Jackson County, which puts us roughly in the middle of the triangle formed by Jackson, Hillsdale, and Albion.
