This is really sad, but I am also relieved that he wasn't killed, which is what I thought when I read the title. It's really tragic, regardless, but I hope he will continue his study of music.

Christopher Rodriguez, God Bless You!

Music will comfort you and guide you - it is your friend. Live your best life and share your love of music. I will be interested in your progress in health, in school and in music.

I hope that you can read this some day soon! And, I'll hold your hand when you need a friend!

I wish more members would look at this post so I'm bringing it around again. Money is being raised for him in February - please read the article. Thank you!

OAKLAND, California (CNN) -- Fifth-grader Christopher Rodriguez sat down Thursday at his piano for his weekly lesson, arched his fingers over the keys and began to play.

10-year-old Christopher Rodriguez was hit by a stray bullet, paralyzing him for life, doctors say.

This is terrible!
My thoughts goes out to him.
Might music comfort you and may the sacrifices and obstacles you'll courageously deal with lead the example for many people who need it.
There are no words to describe the tragedy.
Doesn't a bullet that pass through a wall and still has the acceleration to hit internal organs says something about the condition of the school?

No - that's how houses are built here in the US. Mostly wood, and Sheetrock.

UPDATE!

Christopher Rodrigues

Contra Costa Times
By Katy Murphy
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

"Chris Rodriguez is out of ICU, starting therapy

Christopher Rodriguez is in good spirits, is recovering more quickly than expected and has left the intensive care unit of Children’s Hospital-Oakland. The 10-year-old now spends part of his day in a wheelchair and, according to his mom, is trying to do “wheelies.”
“He has not cried. He’s taken everything as a champ,” his dad said.

Christopher, who was critically injured and paralyzed by a stray bullet that sailed through the wall of his music school Jan. 10, knows he won’t be able to walk for years, at least, his father said.

But Christopher and his family are hoping that developing technologies might eventually help cure his paralysis. In the meantime, family and friends are planning upcoming fundraising events:

Feb. 10, at Chapel of the Chimes, by Harmony Road Music School

March 24, at Yoshi’s in Jack London Square"

END OF ARTICLE

From Betty:
I read elsewhere that there is a fund for medical expenses at Wells Fargo - Piedmont Avenue Branch #7013292606 is the account number.

If you search on Christopher Rodriguez or Harmony Music School (Oakland, CA) there is more mention of his progress and the sentencing of the perp.

Isn't this unbelievable!

His photos show a handsome, upcoming American boy, who was shot while at his piano lesson. I think he is worthy of our support!

How do forum members feel about this situation as something we might contribute to?

This is awful. I am glad he is making progress. I wish I could do more than pray for him.

I am hoping for a miracle. After watching a PBS special on the brain, I believe this young lad will pull through.
