Is there an opera-lovers forums site similar in scope and commitement to this one here that you could recommend? I`ve just been to Staatsoper in Berlin and the stage was separated from the audience with a net!!! It spoilt my evening as I could hardly could see anything through it.(sic!) I feel I really need to find out what this ghastly thing was all about.

Hi,

Wish I could help, it's a good idea.

What opera was performed - I've never heard of the stage being separated by a net. Who staged this opera? smile

Just thought of something, you might want to try www.good-music-guide.com - there is an opera section there.

La Traviata at Staatsoper Berlin, directed by Peter Mussbach. Performance on Dec. 30. The day before I had been to the other Berlin opera, Deutsche Oper, and everybody was frisked at the entrance with the help of metal detectors and the utmost security measures, while at the ouside a crowd of Muslims were shouting abuse, and the police, extremely nervous, tried to ensure everybody with a ticket could get inside. So, to cut the story short, nothing should surpise me more, but the question about the net remains. Had there by any chance been incidents of people throwing eggs at the singers...?

Hi,

What a sad state of affairs. I hope you were able to enjoy the opera in spite of all the commotion.

Maybe if you write to the Deutshce Oper and ask them they may help you. If you do and they get back to you, I'd love to know the reason for the net.

The Voice and Opera on the Good Music Guide would be a good place to post this unusual event. Maybe someone else was at the same performance.
