Here is a link to the fall concert series presented by Patricia and Edmund Frederick in Ashburnham, MA.

Concert Schedule

As some of you are familiar with the Frederick's and their outstanding collection of historical pianos, this is an opportunity for you to attend a live performance on a piano chosen from their collection, according to the composers time period, and performed by an impressive listing of visiting artists.

Hope to see some of the local PW members there on Sunday, 9/18!

I had the privilege of attending my first concert presented by the Fredericks at the Community Church in Ashburnham, MA this past Sunday, Sept 18. This year marks their 21st fall season! Approximately 75 guests gathered to hear the talents of two artists; pianist, Emily White and violinist, Kees Kooper.

For this concert, the Fredericks brought from their historical collection (three blocks away) a Bosendorfer piano built in Vienna c1828-1832 upon which Emily White performed Beethoven’s The“Spring”- Sonata Op 24 in F Major. Kees Kooper preceded the performance with some humor and symbolism to parts of the sonata before the two performers delighted the audience with the entire work.

After a short intermission, Kees outlined Beethoven’s compositional process for the Sonata Op. 47 in A Major - The “Kreutzer”. After ending his commentary and preparing to position his violin, I felt like a small child awaiting a spectacular event to occur. The combination of sound produced by these two instruments and the acoustics provided in the church was nothing short of sweet splendor. I did have some difficulty in hearing Kee’s commentary due in part to my late arrival and thus needing to take a back seat! It should also be noted that Kees Kooper’s violin was built by Francesco Ruggieri in Cremona, Italy c1695!!

Their duo performance was captivating and even my other half who came along begrudgingly, never had to be nudged for producing obscene sounds (snoring  ) during the performance!

The fee for this outstanding concert was a mere $7.50! Special thanks to Patricia and Edmund Fredericks for hosting this event and securing the talent of artists Emily White and Kees Kooper to join in enlightening and entertaining all who attended. A hearty round of applause was heard throughout the quaint town of Ashburnham at the end of their performance!

If you are interested in attending next Sunday’s concert on 9/25, for flute and piano, (Erard from Paris c1893) please review the concert schedule that was posted.

Here are a few pic’s of the Bosendorfer. Patricia told me the piano has a European cherry wood cabinet. I also have a 30 sec sound clip from the final movement of the Kreutzer but I’ll need to figure out how to set that up.
