On Sunday I saw a guy named William Eddins play a recital at Symphony Center. He was unbelievable. Apparently he is a fulltime conductor as well. His mom was sitting right behind me, proud as can be. He played a great piece called Nightmare Fantasy Rag by Allbricht. And his opening sonata by Ginastera was fantastic! I've never heard music by Ginastera before - really good stuff. When he hit those last chords he bounced up off the bench, turned 180 degrees and started strutting (in a George Jefferson-like trot) toward the door. There were a few chuckles at that, just before a thunderous applause. You don't see that kind of attitude very often in this format. He finished off the program with Beethoven's Hammerklavier! A great performer.
