Anybody see this movie? It's the first movie I've seen in years but wow, Jamie Foxx did the most incredible job of playing Ray Charles anyone could imagine. Sounded just like him (Talking only. The soundtrack of music was Ray) looked just like him and had the mannerisms down too.

I'm sure there were plenty of Hollywood liberties taken with the movie, but I found it a very enjoyable history of a man whose music has touched many while crossing many musical styles while also creating his own sound.

Yes, I'm biased. I like Ray's music. Did I mention how great Jamie Foxx was? smile

I saw it, too, John. LOVED it. Went home and tried to play blind. Fumbled BADLY. wink

Did you see that Baldwin was an official sponsor of the movie? I mean, I caught that all the grands were Baldwins, but also that Gibson was thanked in the credits.

Yeah, Jamie Foxx was amazing (and apparently studied classically for years, studying piano at college, even).Who knew?

I hear Oscar tapping at the door.

I noticed Baldwin in all of the scenes but wasn't sure if maybe that was what he played early on. Didn't notice the credits. I know the two times I saw him in the last 4 years he was playing a Steinway. Of course Steinway is the house piano at the Bowl and the OC performing arts center where I saw him.

I read that Jamie actually made money in college by playing party gigs. I also read that he actually played and sang for the movie in order to better get into the part. Ray's recordings were obviously played but Jamie was actually performing while being filmed, not just lip syncing.

I go to the movies probably once a year. Usually with my kids. The last three movies I saw at the theater were Harry Potter, and TLOTR II and III.

I DO want to see this movie, just haven't gotten to it yet. As much to see Ray Charles commemmorated as to appreciate the acting and filmmaking. JohnC, thanks for the good word on this.

Gryphon,
My brothers and I would always joke with my Dad about the last time he went to the theater. While I don't remember the exact date now, we definitely won't forget going to see the "Sons of Katie Elder"....something like in 1966..! smile

Sincerely,
Eldon
