...to praphrase Ed McMahon. A sad day for all. I remember growing up and watching Johnny Carson for many years. Such a funny guy.

Seen here as Carnac the Magnificent.

I think my favorite Carson line ever was the straight-line setup during one Carnac segment...

"Siss, Boom, Bah..."

wink

My favorite was the night the young airheaded one hit wonder starlet showed up with a white persian cat in her lap.

She was beautiful in that fake, hollywood "Monroe" way, dumb as a rock. Johnny would ask her a question designed to get her to talk, and instead she'd just say "yes", or "no". Finally the audience began giggling at Johnny's expressions of frustration, and he began playing off that. She just sat there rubbing the persian cat. Suddenly it dawned on her that she was doing something wrong, and that he was trying to get her to talk - but she couldn't think of anything to say. She stuttered for a moment, looked at the cat, looked at Johnny, and said "would you like to pet my pussy?"

Johnny leaned over, pretended to hold a cigar in his hand ala Groucho Marx, and said in a Groucho impression "Yeah......but get that damned cat out of your lap first......."

She sued him.

I loved the whole Carnac gig. Especially the look on Carson's face as Ed would repeat Carnac's response before Carnac opened the envelope. laugh

Larry, I don't understand. confused

Anyway I heard Dr. Ruth was on Carson's show 90 times yet saw Jonny off camera only once.
He didn't meet the guests before or after a show.
He was a very shy man.

He arrived and left through a separate entrance.
He felt the meeting should be caught on-camera and it kept the interviews more spontaneous.

In my best Carson voice:

Ahh, Ahh, I did not know that. laugh
