Just a thought experiment: if they were not each born into a family of immense power and connections, where would the natural talents of the presidential hopefuls have placed them in life?

Bush - I could see him as middle-management in some company in his home town. Or perhaps an insurance salesman - he can be seen as personable in a fratboy towel-snapping sort of way by people of a certain type, who have a similar background.

Kerry - I can see him as a law partner, perhaps doing intellectual property. Not trial law, he doesn't have the personality. Not divorce law, he wouldn't fight hard enough.

Gore - He might have made a good professor, perhaps poli sci, or environmental studies, or something. He might even have made department chair.

Bush -- definitely sales. Definitely. Probably selling something simple like cell phone plans or motor homes.

Kerry -- corporate law or corporate litigation.

Gore -- yeah, professor works for me. Or maybe one of those high school teachers everyone tries to avoid.

Edwards -- if he hadn't become a trial lawyer, then I'd go with televangelist.

Cheney -- prison warden. eek

Back in the 60's, I think, Evelyn Waugh's novel about the Hollywood funeral trade, The Loved One was made into a movie. The casket salesman was the most inspired bit of casting I've ever seen. They gave the part to Liberace!

Bush as a DEFINITE salesman, hustler, auctioneer and ONLY in Texas or elsewhere in the South.

Kerry as a debating coach, TV commentator, talking head(which he may wind up doing if in fact he loses the election).

BTW, Jeffrey, I'm about half done with the book.
Do you want to hold off commenting on "Resurrecting Empire" until I finish "The Vision of the Anointed?"
