In a recent interview, Henry Kissenger advocated the re-examination of NATO, with an eye towards breaking up the alliance. His reasoning was that since France and Germany had not only opposed American foreign policy, but actually did everything possible to thwart that policy, we(U.S.) should immediately reassess our commitments.

He was also quite adamant that any contracts, or benefits derived after the fall of the Iraqi government should not be given to those who opposed this action.

Is it curtains for NATO?

Jolly,

Not questioning your information, but do provide a link to the source of the info.

And let us also remember Kissinger's brilliance is what kept us going in Vietnam from 1968 until the end. During that time he lied to the American people, was one of the primary voices pushing for the illegal invasion of Cambodia which destabilized that country and set it up for the Pol Pot regime, and pursued policies which many think make him a war criminal.

Mr. Kissinger is not someone whose advice I would put a lot of stock in. Perhaps if he were to admit his mistakes in Viet Nam like Robert McNamara did, I could believe he has learned from them. But he never has -- indeed he defends them -- and hence we can only assume his advice is about as good and as useful as it was on the 1970's.

And, he still stands up for Richard Nixon! Somewhere loyalty and integrity must part ways.

Kissinger also suggested dropping our seat on the Security Council -- sends a bit of a message. We'd remain a member of the General Assembly.

I think he likes to "float" ideas - knowing they spark discussion. Also keeps him in the public eye and is a good way to meet girls.

I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread.

Darn you! Darn you to heck!

Even now I can barely admit that I agree with Lazy. IMO Kissinger is a war criminal and should be tried and immediately executed as such. If it takes more than 20 minutes and $0.07 for a bullet we've spent too much.

But based on your previous posts, Lazy, I wouldn't count on this happening again. laugh

Actually, I pay around 7 cents/round, but that doesn't count shipping. I haven't boght any in awhile, as I got stuck with a couple of cases of armor piercing ammunition. The BATF decided they could not be sold to the general public, and the distributor didn't want them back, so they're collecting dust in the closet.

I don't like to target practice with AP too much, as it has a nasty habit of zipping through backstops.

Just the mental mutterings of a Class I dealer...

sort of brings "don't shoot the piano player" to a whole new level, doesn't it?

Maybe there should be a S&S/S&W forum?

Jolly: Stop hoggin' the AP ammo. I am close to Canada and I fear the massive hoards from the tundra! If they had there way, we would all be eating back-bacon and saying "a-boot", eh?

and for what its worth, 7.62x39 AK ammo does not count in this thread. Kissinger would have NO PART of such ammo!

Boy, did this thread get highjacked...sorry.

Actually, 30-06 AP is still available, just not 7.62x39. The AK round has been deemed politically incorrect.

Now the 7.62x39(actually it is a .311 bullet, but who's splitting hairs), will go through a pine tree like it's not there, but the 30-06 will go through a piece of railroad steel. Velocity, and subsequent hydrostatic shock are also greatly increased with the larger round.

Whoever said the government, any government, was consistent, though?
