No, actually, intelligence can be much better or worse than that.

Blatantly not true.

Consider FDR, and the formation of the OSS. America's intelligence was not bad at the time, but it needed to be better.

Enter Wild Bill Donovan. And the intelligence became better, so the decisions became better.

In today's environment, the intelligence needs to be better. An overhaul of the system is needed just as much as the dark days of WWII - because this is a war, albeit a different type.

Nice to see that you are finally admitting it.

What say you? Should we start with the White House? wink

Excuse me!? Donovan did have some outside help gathering and analysing the intelligence: http://www.nt.net/~toby/intrep.html

We did. We threw the Democrats out.

If you read what I have written on this board, I have always lamented the lack of the HUMINT component of U.S. intelligence. Not entirely Clinton's fault, but the worst erosion happened on his watch.

Intelligence is severely handicapped without it - just read Renauda's link.

Although I'd say it was nice of the U.S. to give the gentleman many of the resources of the OSS. wink

As it was most sporting of His Majesty's Government to ensure that its US Ally was provided with the necessary resources and kept
consulted on a regular basis. Touche
