Does anyone have one? Do they like them? Has anyone used RCI to exchange them?

My sister-in-law and her husband have one in Puerto Vallarta and they seem to like it. They have used it for about the last 15 yrs. Most times they go to PV but every once in a while they've banked days or exchanged for diff locations but I don't know how difficult that is to do. I do know that they don't always get their unit when they use their time. They do use RCI but don't know if they have run into any problems with them or not in exchanging time.

My son in law did some consulting work for RCI several years ago. Until then he would have been the last person in the world to buy a timeshare, but now owns three of them.

They have never used them a single time, but they bank and trade them for use at other locations. He said there is a system and if you understand it, it pays off, and if you donít understand it, it can be costly.

The location of the timeshare as well as the time slot are each color coded. Red/Red are the most valuable and can be traded on par for time at any location in RCIís catalog.

You donít have to buy a timeshare where you want to go, you can buy them anywhere in the world. Shop around for a great price, and buy red/red.

Oh, my son-in-law said RCI is one of the tops in the industry.

We have two, Jeffrey - one in Myrtle Beach and one in Nags Head. We belong to RCI. We've banked them and exchanged for weeks in the Bahamas, Jamaica, Virgin Islands, St. Maarten, Banff, Disney World, Key West and other place.

Like lb said, if you know how to use the system, it's a great way to vacation.

Plays,

The reason I told Jeffrey to shop around was that there is a big difference in prices. I do not know how they rate their system, but my son-in-law bought 2 red/red timeshares in French lick In. for $7500. each. This was 9 years ago, but how does anyone rate French Lick In. red/red. I can see no reason for anyone to go there, and there is nothing to do when you get there. His 3rd timeshare is in another god-forsaken place. That is probably why they have never used them.

Trump has recently received a license to build a casino in French Lick so I guess that $7500 was a good investment.

My folks have done something called "Vacation Home Exchange" several times, always with excellent results.

It's a deal where you and another family actually trade houses, often for long periods (say upwards of a month or more). Because you're both going to eachother's houses, there's a high level of trust and reciprocation that takes place. You can't really be a creep because the person you are dealing with will be living in YOUR house in return.

They've taken trips all over the US, and also to England, and had a great time. It's not at all uncommon for the neighbors to know you are coming and send out the welcome mat, so you really get to know people quickly.

Jeffrey,

A woman that works for me has two through Marriott and couldn't be happier. They have been able to use the Marriott network to trade out with other owners for different locations. THey have also been able to sell in the past for a healthy profit.

We just purchsed in Key West through Hyatt Vacation Club. There are only 2 drawbacks I can see so far. The first being you need a degree in planning how to use it. The second being you have to plan your vacation so far in advance.

I've considered doing the house exchange thing. I assume there'd be lots of demand for folks to vacation near D.C.

The main reason I've stayed away from time shares is that great hotel deals are so easy to find nowadays with the Internet, and I hate having my money tied up. But the industry seems to have come a long way from where it once was, which is a good thing . . .

If you use RCI - try to take advantage of their "Gold Crown" resorts - they offer better accomodations and services. But, you can only go to the same Gold Crown resort once every 4 or 5 years. But, there are plenty of them around.
