laugh It's me on hearing the news the CR was being shut down wink

Apparently, I don't know how to smile on photographs but in reality, I was just about to sell that bike, and I wasn't happy about it frown

I'll never tell. cool This thread is great. Thanks for starting it Plays.
Phykell you look so tough, but we all know by now what a pussy cat you are. NY, you look exactly like I imagined you would. Cathy, I love the contrast in personality depicted in your two photos. Tawain Girl - I don't see a pic; where'd it go?

Playing Vladimir Horowitz's piano when it was at Jordan Kitts in Richmond. I look pinched, but actually I was so overwhelmed by the opportunity that I was in tears.

Just straying off topic for a sec here to say that that piano of his had the lightest action I've ever felt! It made playing with my little bitty hands way easier!

Thanks Tom, I quite often have to adjust the pictures I download from PW .. and from other sites as well. I had already done so before I scrolled down here! :headslap:

Great picture, Kathy! Very much so.

(Was Jack holding up a cute little bunny, or just making funny faces? ..... You don't have to tell us if you don't want to. :p

[edit] ok, i opened this thread half hour ago and forgot to refresh it before I responded. Otherwise I would have inserted a "lucky dog" type comment about Plays.

Plays,

When I worked for the S&S C&A dept more than 30 years ago, that piano was sometimes in "the Basement" (where the C&A dept was located) for work. Franz M. (my boss) was the one who always worked on it. He adjusted the action and voicing specifically to M. Horowitz' desires. It was indeed extremely light. The voicing was also "unusual". Many top pianists who tried it thought it was very difficult to control. I remember one who referred to it as "squirrely"

Staying off topic--was that the original action he'd played or the one Steinway replaced it with on rebuild? They threw away his original, but I don't know just when. I've read many complaints from techs about that fact. The way his regulation has been described sounds quite like what I like--very light with letoff very close to the string, just short of blocking.

Just to let you all know, I'm capturing as many pictures as I can. I'll be compiling them all into a slide show album to send anyone who is interested. Just PM me.
