tonite - in honor of MLK we're having ham, dirty rice, greens and cornbread. My husband thinks I'm nuts, but we all love greens.

For tonight, I am marinating some flank steak in red wine, onions, garlic and a bit of thyme, parlsey, clove, salt and pepper. Marinates all day and then I broil it hot and fast.

Comfort food for a blustery, cold evening: chili, simple green salad and corn muffins. Off to the store shortly to get some cheddar to grate and sprinkle on top of the chili.

Ribs, collard greens, rice, all washed down with plenty o' St. Ides Malt Liquor. (Actually, having a glass as we speak--smoooooth.)

After dinner we all sit down as a family and watch the movie "Shaft," and I explain the finer points of '70s black culture to my children.

I'm a vegetarian. Have been for 20 years now. The new twist is now I'm low-carbing it (yes, it's possible -- I do eat seafood, though). Tonight, we're having crustless crab quiche. It's a fun challenge (to me, at least, a real foodie), to find good, low-carb meals. Of course, the kids just want their mac-and-cheese.

As for Vegetarian Times, even when I wasn't (further) restricting my diet, I never found anything close to being a "keeper." I'm an epicurious.com girl all the way!

Inspired by another thread, tonite's dinner will be coq au vin.

Had a request for "soft" food. The oldest got new braces and is sore, the middle has a sore throat so....

Potato cheese soup from Laurel's Kitchen with salad.

Ooo...maybe we need a favorite cookbook thread...

Anytime Jodi. I have a couple of dogs that would look great in one of your paintings. The salmon was very good (if I do say so myself--as the cook) and the wine turned out to be Pinot Grigio -- Woodbridge. Went well.

And when you do come to dinner, you and I have a lot of gardening talk to talk about.

Maybe if we serve up enough good food, everyone will stop fighting and get on with eating and drinking.

Jack if you're using a smoker the snowstorm prolly hasn't reached Mass. yet.

We are getting hammered with snow, so dins tonight is comforting stuff on a tray by the fire: tomato bisque, cobb salad and some yeast rolls.
