I see they were kind enough not to arrest the poor woman for assault. Very charitable of them.

Proving once again, that if the woman had been allowed to keep a loaded .45 in the house she could have stopped the senseless destruction of a poor defenseless yard gnome!! wink

"He lay there and I began to scream. I went back into the kitchen and found a rolling pin in case he came down. I didn't want to break another gnome."

As she got out of her car at her home in South Kensington on Monday night, a man threatened to shoot her unless she handed over her jewellery. He hit her with his pistol, but still fled empty-handed.

“The whole area seems to be full of yellow police boards appealing for information and the crime rate appears to be rising,” she said. “There are not enough policemen and something should be done about it.”

Over the past few years, she said, she had been burgled twice, had her car wheels stolen and another car taken. “We are in the middle of an election campaign and something should be done about crime in Central London,” she said.

Why don't you want a police state? Are you engaged in a criminal activity? Are you a criminal? Perhaps you are confused but the police sides with the good, JBryan.

The term "police state" is biased.

I just quoted a little of the beginning, but the point of the article was that the woman got away from her attackers without using a gun (or any weapon, although they used guns against her). I thought it followed up on your "No guns required" title about the other woman who also got away without using a gun. But you would have to be paying attention to realize that.

That's unfair gryphon. I thought you posted that news article with the intention of repeating the slogan of "criminals have guns, but law-abiding citizens don't." How should I have foreseen a total reversal of your normal behavior?

Here in Houston Texas I am continually amazed by the news reports about homeowners defending themselves with firearms during "home invasions." Frequently the criminal is shot to death. You have to be insane to break into someone else's homestead here in Texas -- you never know which one is a crazed NRA member defending his property and freedom, guns blazing. This obviously is a huge crime deterrent, far more effective than a gnome. Helps with prison overcrowding, too.

Past experience with police states has a way of doing that.
