Still on the hunt for my first piano, and I've expanded my search to a bit more money. Today I checked out a 7 year old Brentwood studio piano, which I'd never heard of before and a search of this club didn't turn up much.

So what's the deal with this brand? It's an absolutely stunning piano, dark mahogany looking wood, very tall, nice long strings, and in literally like-new condition. The hammers look like they've never hit the strings, and it's being sold by a tech that's given it a clean bill of health. Older couple owned it, bought it new, and never really used it. Comes delivered, tuned, with a matching leather topped bench for $1500. When he played it for me, it sounded every bit as good as the Yamaha U1 I heard at another dealer and loved, but for $2000 less.

So is this a good piano? From what I can gather, it's Chinese right? The tech said that it wasn't, so I'm a bit confused.

Sounds like you're describing some world class model. smile If I remember correctly Brentwood was a stencil name for a piano that was made in Macao,a portugese colony off the coast of Hong Kong. It was a subsidiary of Ghanzhou /Pearl River. 10 years ago when these pianos were first being imported into the states (Hastings also),they proved to be pretty sad though Pearl River has made leaps and bounds in quality since than. Your description was very eloquent but the piano doesn't live up to it. Now that U1 is just as stunning but with......a great personality wink

Gotcha, that's what I was afraid of. It really looked nice, but that's about the extent of what I know about it smile

Yikes! And I thought I was the only person to have ever owned a Brentwood (for four years as an intermediate piano student). It's an awful, awful piano.
