It would appear so. He has been trying to string people along ever since last year about whether or not he will ride the TdF in 05.

He's starting to annoy me with all the game playing. Ever since he went Hollywood with Sheryl Crowe.

But it will be a fun race to watch again with him in it. thumb

I haven't followed so closely...what types of games are we talking about? I'm sure he doesn't want to go out a loser.

BTW, hasn't US Postal sponsorship expired?

Lance wouldn't be riding the Tour if the Discovery Channel would have let him get away with it, but they didn't, so he's in. He may be the greatest TF rider ever, but for greatest rider my money's still on Eddy Merckx.

Gosh, I'm glad somebody said that. My sentiments exactly. The STBXX thinks I'm wrong and that Lance deserves to have a massive EGO.

I haven't read his book, but it sounds like before he had cancer he was a real jerk. Then he got cancer and his attitudes changed...maybe he is settling back into his old ways.

Yes, Postal sponsorship expired last year. Discovery Channel signed on for the next three years.

One of the criticisms of Lance by many is that he only focuses on the Tour whereas many of the previous Tour champs champions also raced and won other Grand Tours as well as many of the Spring Classics. This was part of his desire to focus on other races now that he has 6 Tours in the bag.

Ever since winning the TdF last year Lance has said he will ride another Tour but wouldn't commit to 05 or 06. He spoke of wanting to win some Spring Classics as well as try and set the record for the one hour ride.

He said last year he would decide and announce in April of this year whether or not he would ride this year's Tour. Yet in the past he always said that if you are going to ride the Tour you must start training in November and focus your training soley on the Tour. But now he claims he can train differently and decide in April if he really wants to ride the upcomming Tour. Well, which is it Lance?

Now he has just come out and said he will ride this years TdF. OK, fine. Let's just get on with it. The hype is annoying. It's more than obvious that Discovery did not pony up big bucks without some kind of commitment from Lance. So, how about we just tell people and stop playing all the games? Just my $.02 YMMV.

And while I'm on a roll I am going to puke if I have to keep hearing about Chery Crowe every time I watch a cycling show. cursing I can't hold it in much longer. laugh

There are definitely some who share that belief. I'm not sure if I believe he has regressed all the way back, but the direction does appear to be going the wrong way. IMHO of course. wink

The STBXX read his book "It's Not About the Bike". I admit that I didn't, even though, I'll read just about anything. But, the guy has always rubbed me the wrong way. He's just arrogant. And, even while overcoming cancer, he seemed arrogant. He just creeps me out.

I feel better knowing that others see at least a little of what I see. Whew!

If he wants to be arrogant so be it. He has done wonderful things for cancer survivors. I've ridden in his "Ride for the Roses" and if you're in his big money group. you're well treated but if just one of the riders, it's not a well organized ride. His former wife was very nice though. Let face it folks, enough doctors told him he was probably a goner. It's the arrogance which helped in some way for him to make it through. Not to mention the fact that the french press hounds him for doping. I just don't want him to be considered the best rider of all time.
Let him win two of the major tours in the same year and ride the spring classics.

Jan's got a shot this year given the route, depends on if he's stayed away from the brats during the winter.

I agree that he has been a wonderful example for sick people everywhere. Also agree that to be the best at anything you do have to have some attitude. I just don't like the Hollywood approach he seems to have adopted now.

I'd like to do that Ride for the Roses sometime. Sounds like fun. I've done the Moab Skinny Tire Festival which is affiliated with the LAF although neither Lance nor any famous people show up. It is a fabulous four days in some of God's most beautiful country. smile

JohnC: Lance Armstrong came from pretty much nothing, certainly wasn't Hollywood. But he does seem to love it so. But if he thinks on his roots, it just ain't him. I agree with you.
