Now we finally have 'living proof' that Boesendorfer did copy [almost to a T..]the design and construction of Estonia grands...

....and we always did hear that rumour all along!!

Thanks....for the evidence!

Funny, Norbert. Do you sell Estonia?

Mat, I wonder how you stumbled on that one. The van is from MA. The tech's name is George, of Boston Organ and Piano, www.bopinc.com.

The piano is....not mine frown

Chris, I responded to the Steinway/Petrof II question & had suggested looking at the Bosendorfer "Conservatory" model (7') which is comparably priced to the Steinway B.

To make a long story short, did a Google search for the Bosie & up came this very nice pictorial.

There is nothing more exciting than "delivery day" IMO. I was so nervous the day my M&H BB was delivered I could have jumped out the window--this reminded me of that day.

Yes I do. If I can get any.

For the more enlightened:

What are the absolutely unique construction features [clearly visible in the pictures] which ONLY Boesendorfer and Estonia have today.....and no other piano IN THE WORLD?

NO OTHER! [ else...tell me!]

[I thought everybody else clued in on that one immediately..but alas...was wrong again!]

Norbert, Sarcasm intended. To ever suggest an Estonia is like a Bosie "to a T" reeks of sales schtick. I'm just calling you on it. wink

Mat, that Bosie was a 7'4' judging from inscription on the cut out.

Does anyone have any experience playing any combination of the 200 (6'7"), 214 (7') and 225 (7'4")? I am not sure, but would be curious to know if there is any more prominent favorite among this somewhat tight group of Bosendorfer scales. I have tried 2 225's that were phenominal, but haven't had the opportunity to back-to-back the lineup.

One of the 225's was used, probably selling in the 40's, while the other was new and not notably different, IMO.

Shopping for a house, myself, there is no doubt what this fella did to finance his piano. I'd also suggest that piano cost a small fraction of what he paid for his home, if its in this area. Buildable lots, with nothing on them, regularly sell for 400k within 25 miles of the city. eek

...enough wining. Bosie fans?

Dear Chris:

Please...no attempts made here to [seriously]
equate pianos to each other...least of all to "sell" them. But some things are nice to know. Especially when they are a little unique and/or perhaps 'special'

For example.....look at the frame and keybed at the Boesendorfer.Notice the keybed built directly into the frame without the otherwise commonly required reinforcement plate glued or screwed underneath?

Boesendorfer is the only piano maker [still] doing it...besides Estonia..... Who 'copied' whom...was totally said in jest.[Bad] joking permitted...I hope.[mercy!]

We all know these are age old companies doing whatever they are doing to maintain some individuality and glory in their own way.

So, you good piano folks out there have at least some personal choices left in today's crazy market.

And we have stuff here to argue about!

Norbert, Maybe a dumb question, but you say the keybed design is unique to Bosie & Estonia----I can't see the difference between this & my M&H keybed & frame. I'm probably not seeing what you are describing. Help me.

Mat, if you look right under your keybed you'll see an additional 'plate'all along acting as the keybed mounted underneath the frame. This plate is NOT part of the frame itself and is often filled with all kinds of 'fillers' such as styrofoam, etc.

In case of the Boesendorfer,i.e Estonia the action is DIRECTLY mounted onto a keybed which is part of the frame itself now becoming in fact paramount to a "one-piece" wooden structure.
Look from the sides of the grand and you see right away what I mean.

You'll see it beautifully: one piece construction!

And it's MASSIVE!

Nothin'...not even Jerry Lee Lewis will shake that one!

Norbert--OK, I took a pic of my keybed --I don't see a difference.

The keyboard & action is mounted to a heavy board (as in the Bosie shots) and that is then slid into the case which is solid wood---don't see any styrofoam or plastic anywhere. Looking under the piano (under keyboard)--also solid case...here's the pic...can you tell anything from it. i didn't pull the action/keyboard because I didn't want to go that far, but maybe you can point to what I should be seeing. When the keyboard & action is pulled, I have a flat wood case just as in the bottom pic of the Bosie.

I'm not trying to compare the pianos, just curious about construction & design differences...

Thanks.

Mat

If you look at the photo of the piano on its side where you can see the leg mount plate, it will explain better what Norbert was talking about. The keybed is rabbeted into the arms of the piano instead of fastening underneath them. This does make for a more solid construction, but is it necessary. Most other manufacturers don't think so.

The actual makeup of the keybed though is not any different than most manufacturers, and could be filled with styrofoam, who knows.

Could you define what you meant by often. I took it as there are a lot of manufacturers using foam in there keybeds. Is this so?

Thanks lb and Norbert.

In the case of M&H, I doubt if there is any styrofoam in there (cement maybe)---this thing weighs 1029 pounds--more than a Steinway D and more than the Bosie in the pics.

Actually, I love the Conservatory Bosie (the satin finish one)--at it's pricepoint (competetive w/Steinway B--just a bit more than M&H BB) it's very hard to beat--

Mat,

I'd like to try a conservatory, but I suppose I shouldn't expect to find them on the used market. That scale is pretty new. Is it not?

Somebody on Pianomart is selling a 7 foot scale for 49k, but that doesn't look like a satin finish, nor do I imagine its price is far from what a new conservatory 7 would sell for.
